Actually it can but not a small hand held. I just bought a 1971 Kenwood KT-7001 tuner that sounds amazing. really warm and well, like many vintage tuners, it sounds practically better than anything I feed my amp...lucky I like the one jazz station, one classical station and the indy station that continue broadcasting a great blues show every Friday night, dead hour on Saturdays, Sunday reggae show etc...

I would never give up my tuners and I have Sirius radio able to broadcast throughout my property along with streaming services, records, CD,s etc....I wont give up on FM and the gear just yet.

For a start check out Jim Hall - Concierto. Has Steve Gadd on drums….our local hero. My dad grew up next door to him. A very accessible recording anyone can dig I think. It’s on all streaming platforms

For years I was going to do that, particularly for those into vinyl since I buy all the new re-issue blue note and acoustic sound series, craft records etc...jazz releases. Thought it would be fun to review them and and make recommendations, sound quality etc...but determined probably no interest here...maybe I am wrong. Doesn't have to be vinyl specific either

man I could literally go on forever. Jazz is huge. I mostly prefer 50's and early 60's stuff. All the Keith Jarrett Trio stuff as far as more modern recordings go are awesome, contemporary (actively gigging) traditional groups like Bill Charlap Trio are great fun to discover...Brad Meldaugh, Julian Lange etc....have fun

I’ve got that on vinyl. Was a recent release..record store day I think.. I collect anything with Shelly Manne on it it. Awesome drummer and he always has a great band around him. That Pacific Northwest ain’t my favorite but even that is good.

Check out “at the Manne Hole” which was recorded live at his club. Basically check out all his stuff either as a leader or guest.

Yeah, its overkill. A pair of old Adcom GFA 555's (250w/ch consevative) would sound as good at any reasonable volume level, and are available used for 3-500 regularly. No real need for a pre if you're streaming.

A couple jazz selections not mentioned yet, accessible but classic - Miles's In A Silent Way (Jaco Patorious on bass); Herbie Hancock's Maiden Voyage; Ramsey Lewis The In Crowd, anything by Joe Williams ... Dave Bruebeck Take 5. I could go on...

Fluance RT82 hooked up yesterday. Kinda fun as I haven't had a record player (errr....'turntable' since we're now hi-fi-ish) since I was a little kid. Daughter got Rumours Live LP from Santa so that was our introduction to vinyl. She's all in on the vinyl aspect of music and we are headed out to a local record shop today to look for hidden treasure.

I will say the live recording while fun to hear was pretty lacking in lows to mid-lows. Tried it streamed and really not much better. I suspect we'll grab the studio version as well or maybe a 'best of'. One tune did really stand out though and that was 'landslide'. Nicks is fantastic on it and it's one of those occasions where a less than studio perfect effort is very much appreciated.

Current state of affairs. I realize speakers are supposed to be on stands however these are going back to Crutchfield shortly. Replacements will be Wharfedale Lintons which I have demoed at length and absolutely love.

The Lintons are really nice. I recommend getting the stands for them if you have room. You really need to get them a bit out from the wall with their rear facing bass port. their matching stands look great with the speakers sitting on them

These are the Denton 85. Nice sound considering the size but just not as full as the Linton.

What are your thoughts on the wall to the right in the picture? Console thing is centered on the wall but to the left there is about 3.5' of 45 degree wall before it becomes perpendicular to the right wall. Not much I can do with that. I'm thinking of fiddling with acoustic panels.

BTW had Harry Connick Jr's Christmas stuff on yesterday. Sleighride is maybe as good as I've heard for a big band sound with juicy brass. Looking for more of that in both big band and jazz stuff.

Picked up #3 from your list at the local record store today. Used but pretty good shape. Still has more pops and crackles than I want so I'll be learning how to wash a record soon. The sound was otherwise really nice.

After 40 years of collecting, I never evolved beyond using a spin-clean. For $80 I’m more than pleased with how it works. Just make sure to always use distilled water. Start with this and if you have the interest and the budget, high dollar and high tech record cleaning machines are out there.
