My wife's outback as a tray under the motor, but there's a hole in the tray to access the oil filter and another to access the oil pan drain plug. I seem to remember having some other vehicle in the past that had a tray, but the tray had a little door in it that was held in place by a single bolt on one side and a couple of tabs that inserted into slots on the other side.
That has me wondering if you could cut a hole/window in your tray that would give you the required access, and then make a door for that window out of some sheet metal or something. Probably a pain initially, but a time saver in the long run. But certainly won't be factory perfect any more.

Looks like your car has a sentient gathering of electrons named Hal monitoring your driving and recommending maintenance intervals. What did Hal tell the service rep?
What I find online is that the "severe" service category changes the interval to 25K miles, regardless of what Hal thinks.

No separate booklet. The main book just says the maint minder will show when except if you drive in a mountainous area...then change it at 37.5K miles.

Can’t believe you have 40K on that Civic already! Slow down, bro.

I belong to a Civic SI forum and there are a few different varieties of engine pans for sale to replace the Honda one. Most are under $200...I might do that sometime. The after market ones all have two doors (filter and drain)

It's actually 44K...I rounded it because they roll on too easy.

I watched a Youtube video this am for the details of a change. It looks easy...the only thing that needs to be removed is the air intake box. (and the engine pan) Takes two even quarts.

I think most owner's manuals state not to use any additives (fuel, oil, coolant) of any kind. Funny how the dealers are always quick to recommend all sorts of extras.

In my case, they didn't even recommend or inform me that it was added. Just showed up as added on the invoice.
