Noise canceling headphones are a game changer. Like others have said, I would rather take fewer vacations and fly business class when going overseas. It makes the experience way less stressful. Being able to lie flat and get some real sleep on a trip to India is huge.

I have never done this, but a friend of does:

If you know your trip dates well enough in advance, you can book two economy seats next to each other for about half of business class, depending on the flight. He gets a window and a middle seat.

He does mostly east coast US to Europe so that is doable.

Flights to Asia? Business Class only.

Already have the headphones. They are nice.

A comfy rear is better.

So, after that I do my best not to sleep on a flight. I never take anything to make me sleep nor do I drink alcohol. I do snore without the CPAP machine, and I never want to be that guy.
... And this is why we wear noise-cancelling earbuds on long flights. Good ones would shut out a Deep Purple concert.

Another thought might be to smear something like “Icy Hot” on your backside to stimulate blood flow to your seating muscles.

Of course try this at home first as it could be irritating as well- make very sure that you don’t apply it anywhere near your boy parts!

Compression socks EVERY time, take a baby aspirin too

Donut pillow, look at the ones they use for people in wheel chairs. You want pressure off the tailbone

Little rocket man and I are flying to Europe this summer. I use a CPAP machine and I’ve been thinking about the flight, and what I’m going to do if I want to sleep. I don’t know if they make a portable CPAP machine, but I think it would look goofy on the airplane. I do use mouth tape sometimes, and that might be one solution.

Kudos to Seahawk on the inflatable suggestion. Just landed in Taiwan. 13.5 hours in air. Super easy flight with the cushion, compression socks, and a nice bit of Valium! Feel great! Awesome!!!

I found the cushion and compression socks on Amazon, but I couldn’t find the Valium! Do you have a link?😂

At first glance, I thought this was a thread about "Pan-free frying."

Good to hear!

How long will you be in Taiwan?

I am a member of the Flying Tigers VFW in Taipei and they are a hoot...the President and I talk once a month or so and they love visitors.

Best.

There are a number of portable, battery powered CPAP machines out there.

There was a time when people cared about how they look when flying. I don't think there is much you can do to "look goofy" that hasn't already been done. I'd rather look goofy than fall asleep and snore loud enough to drown out the sound of the engines.

My doctor told me to get up and walk around every half hour or so. I guess blood can pool in your lower legs and cause clots or something. I had an "episode" once after driving for several hours without stopping. Passed out. Doc said, "Don't sit for long periods of time, get up, get your blood moving." On a Europe flight it's hard to do until people start going to sleep.
