My theory is that we measure time by the moments that matter. As you get older you raise the bar in what those are.

I think a year for a young kid is a long time because it's 1/8th of their whole life. Whereas for an old git like me a year is only 1/66th of my life. No wonder it flies by without having really done anything

Yep. We measure time with a linear scale. We experience time proportionally.
I had this conversation with my granddaughter a couple of days ago.

Since I retired life is moving at light speed. Every time I turn around its Sunday.

We're all in the same boat. Smile when you can and love your family.
Nothing else really matters.

(I'm not going to disregard that).
Sounds awful! Thank goodness I've got another 10 years

Matter of perspective.
When you are 5, a year is 20% of your life. When you are 50, that same year is 2% of your life.

Time certainly does fly as we get older...
What's weird to me is that ever since COVID, I've completely lost the perception of time. Things I think happened 6 months ago actually happened 4-5 years ago. I can't put my finger on "why" this started at that point in time, but it's big in my brain. (and my life didn't change during COVID--went to work everyday, just like normal times).

I think the reason we feel that life is going by quickly is that we tend to condense years into periods, sometimes long periods like raising children or a previous marriage. The one thing that will make a year seem like a year and maybe then some is to drive a surveyor's stake into 1-3 days a month. Do something significant that is not routine. Going out for a drive in the twisties is not the same as going out with the gruppe on NYD or an organized event. And do too many of those and they in turn become routine. Birthdays and anniversaries are not going to do it alone. |

I was in the airport today, and a guy across from me was wearing a sweatshirt from my college alma mater. I graduated 30 years ago, even though it doesn't seem so long ago in my memories.

One sad part of getting older is going to way more funerals than weddings.
It seems a year is just a few months long now. Vash, enjoy retirement. Of course, as long as all the bills get paid, and you have enough to spend on fun stuff, it is hard not to enjoy retirement.

Yeah, it’s flying by now. I was looking at the SS website and thought maybe another 1 or 2 more years, then realized 70 is coming up fast.

It seems to be going by at a snail’s pace for me. For the past few days I’ve been calculating the kind of lifestyle we can afford given balance between how much money we have and how much longer we have to live. Do we live large and hope to die soon, or live on cat food and live to 110? Either way, the suspense would be killing me if I obsessed about it.

Is it just me or does anyone else think a car is almost new when you hear the date is around the time you where in HS?
To me when I read or hear about an 1986 car I always think it’s pretty new!
