Same here Steve (my first CC - 1986). I guess that's down to luck.

My sister and BIL have been hit many times.

Check your July Citibank statement. I'm really enjoying the 55" OLED! Gave the seller a perfect survey.

I'm never ever worried about a fraud dispute. My issue now is a merchant I voluntarily paid, but then who could not fulfill the order in a timely manner. I don't know if Amex dives into the merchant's fine print on cancelations, but it seems to me, when it says 2-3 days fulfillment time and they can't give any estimated shipping date after two whole weeks, Amex should just say "too bad" to the merchant. Now that the merchant shipped a perishable product a full week after my cancelation request, it's approaching fraud.

Keep everything in writing, and don’t accept partial “discount” offers — they’re often just tactics to get you to close the dispute.

Truth be told, their offer is pretty good. I already have the medicine in my fridge and the price was good. If they refund me $100 for my trouble, it'd be a great deal. But I fear it's $100 off a future order and I don't want to deal with these guys ever again. And going wobbly or trying to wring more out of them may look bad to Amex.

Well, Amex closed the dispute and found in my favor. BUT .... they said it was due to the merchant not responding to them and that they could reopen and reverse it anytime in the next 90 days. Meanwhile I have $700 worth of this medicine in my fridge and the merchant has gone radio silent. I'll be kind of chapped if they send me a return shipping label in 89 days and then tell Amex I kept the merchandise. And I wouldn't put it past them.

And Amex has rebilled my account, said the merchant provided proof of delivery. Yeah, I had already told them that. I called Amex the day it arrived, asked what to do, I called and emailed the merchant that I wanted a return shipping label, that it arrived three weeks late and they shipped fully one week after I requested to cancel. Now Amex is reopening the case based on the exact same info I gave them two weeks ago. Sheesh. They may lose me over this one. I am not eating this charge and I firmly believe the merchant will try to hit my card again in the future, just to see if they can get away with it. Amex says they put a block on charges from them, but that that does not get me out of an agree-upon subscription.

I was supplied a bad pallet of pavers(same batch#, but different color) and the supplier told me to pound sand, the manufacturer sales rep agreed and said they would get me credit for 2 pallets, then a week later ghosted me. I had spent $25k with this supplier over the prior year.

I was quoted $1000 labor and a new pallet would have been another $500. I was filing in small claims court, but decided to dispute the charge (about $4000) with my credit card company to get supplier's attention.

All I wanted was 2 pallets, they never contested the chargeback.

Once upon a time I had several Amex accounts that were 35 years old and I'd run a huge amount of money through. As much as $25k in a month.

I got into a little dispute with two of their departments regarding half a million unused points. Literally a chicken or egg thing. Long story.

Never could get them to sort it out, told them they could shove my accounts up their collective ass and that was the end of my Amex accounts.

Sometimes, the individuals involved have **** for brains and can't see the forest for the trees.

I'm batting 50% (my fault). Years ago my wife was in California and had a health situation and I paid a medical facility for treatment with 2 credit cards, $25k and $12k. I don't want to get too detailed, but they were supposed to do something and they didn't. I asked for my money back and they said no. I contacted the agency that regulates their industry and got a very sympathetic caseworker. This outfit was well known as a bad actor. She said they were in permitting for an expansion, and she found some infractions that "could" delay the expansion if the agency wanted to hold their feet to the fire. This took six months. In the meantime, I was trying to get chargebacks from the credit card companies. They both said "no" of course, I got pissed, and canceled the account that had the $12k on it - big mistake. The other account was still open. The regulatory agency said something to the medical facility, I don't know what, but I can imagine. They wrote a credit for the $25k and would have written a credit for the $12k if I hadn't been so hasty.

I’m hoping they wrote a $12,000 check instead.

I won a $42,000 merchant dispute last year, but it wasn’t easy (or fun).

They denied it twice, I had to appeal it twice, and they finally relented.

It involved a fairly well know 17 year old company that essentially went rogue, defrauded customers in its last 6 months, and filed bankruptcy before delivering product (high end home appliances).

I got my money back, but I have experience with this and was relentless. Others weren’t so fortunate and lost 6 figure credit card claims.

Credit card companies are a lot tighter now about chargebacks. Yes, $50 claims aren’t much of a problem. But they will now often fight you on big claims, especially when they can’t recover from the merchant..
