That and the fact that the car is already paid for, which is another part of the BaT protocol, which admittedly someone could fail to do but they would be out their buyer’s fee. Other than that, you hit it on the head.

I know that you have not been successful marketing your vehicles on the site but my track record is batting 1000, with every listing paid for within a day or two of auction ending, site unseen, (except for my photos/videos).
They immediately collect their 5% buyers fee, you are correct about that. But BaT doesn’t provide any facilitation for a seller to receive payment from a buyer, for that you’re on your own just like any other vehicle transaction. They do offer their verified checkout that acts as an escrow service but it also costs extra.

I’m actually 1/2 on BaT, my D2 S8 sold post-auction to the high bidder. I enjoy watching auctions of cars with questionable histories being sold for top dollar In all seriousness I think there are some epic cars for sale on there, but I think the comments section and “experts” lull non-car savvy people into a false sense of security. It’s still buyer beware, and ultimately it’s just another car auction.

I agree with you 100% that it's not a perfect platform, I think the worst thing is the way that they protect their "power sellers" and really all sellers from tough questions. Too much moderation in the comment threads but that's JMO.

In many ways, though, it's amazing and the best platform yet, also IMO.

It’s great for sellers and window shoppers! I’m also old fashioned and can’t fathom buying an old used car online unless it’s a smoking deal or I know the seller. I watched an R129 last week that in my opinion had a bunch of red flags but still went for over $20k.

I've had great luck selling and so-so luck buying, I've actually been burned twice with undisclosed issues but both vehicles are winners after a lot of corrective action, so it's not like they were junk heaps or had fatal flaws. It is a HUGE advantage to be able to inspect something in person before bidding but sometimes it's not feasible. The 7 day format allows it, though.

Videos and additional photos supplied in response to requests goes a long way as well as just the feeling you get from the seller in the Q&A section. In the end, though, they are used cars.

The shipper contacted me today after several texts back and forth with the buyer. The buyer expressed his frustration with the shipper. Who knows. It should be picked up by the end of the weekend. As mentioned previously, getting payment on time was not an issue. My limited experience with BAT has been OK so far. Two sales and two purchases.

It's where the nice cars are, period. It's still a curated site, though it doesn't seem like it sometimes. They have a real soft spot for anything Porsche or Alfa, so sometimes some questionable heaps slip through.

Where else are you going to find something like this, almost any day of the week?

Agree, and they pop up every few months, but I can't bring myself to pay $7000 for a Fiat I sold for $800 in the 80's

It got picked up today. Riding to the Seattle/Tacoma area under a 57 300SL Roadster. Then heads back east. I had to get creative with getting it uphill from my shop to the street. Landcruiser to the rescue.

Congrats, Jerry! I could have used one like that as my '72 has more corrosion underneath than I would like but my 2.0 engine is in awesome condition and runs strong.

Nice to get that space back in your shop!

You have the money, you have the power. (Unless they paid by credit card?)

It's all settled. Took longer than I would have expected, but all in all I'm pleased with the number I got and to have the room in the shop. Winter is coming and cars need to be sorted and stored.

That's me, I'm not buying a car until I've seen it in person and if possible, started and driven it. If I can't start and drive it, then it's got to be at a price that reflects that. "Looks good" doesn't mean diddly as far as mechanicals go. Could have no pistons or fried pistons or cracked head and block or ...

I'm not sure that anything on BaT ever seems like a "great deal" from a buyer perspective, but then I don't spend that much time on it.
