Yesterday (NW Ohio) temps in the 20's through the day but did you look at the "feels like" temperature? It was 3F.

Right now 26 but feels like 8F.

Phone weather apps still calling for 15 " of snow over the weekend here in north Georgia . But local news is saying the same as you , up to an inch of ice. Then Monday/Tuesday bitter cold down to single digits at night . I hate it 😒

I've been outside this am and it's 15f...but the wind is biting cold.
Getting suited up for the snowblower next.

We are forcast to have several days of below freezing, some below 0 temps and 6 to 12 inches of snow.

Insert long string of profanity of your choice.

The TV news showed the bread isle at Sam's striped bare. How much bread can someone eat in a four days? The call to arms for the citizens of snow means run to the store and get the "three whites" milk, bread and toilet paper.

We pulled out the Koi pond heater from the storage shed, and tested it. It was DOA, so we ran to Atwoods and we bought the last one they had. With sustained below freezing weather the Koi pond will have a glacier on the waterfall, and a layer of ice on the top except where the waterfall hits the water.

We have a heated bird bath that will not freeze. And we put out a bird feeder. With all that snow it may will be hard fore the bids to feed but they will have to figure it out.

Yeah, I'm afraid of ice. 1 in is sorta catastrophic. We get power outages for days here in semi-rural Va with a quarter inch or so from multiple trees dropping on lines, more would be nuts.
I have a sunroom where I overwinter a pile of tropicals that sit around my pool in spring-fall. Its heated by an electric heater that's not on my generator. I'm thinking I'm prepared to lose them next week.

After about a half inch of ice things start getting serious fast. I really hope they are wrong about that part of the forecast. We aren’t in ice, but a lot of people are.

The overnight low in Minneapolis tonight is -21 and last night it was -19 deg. The high temp for tomorrow is -7 deg. That is what I grew up with, though it got a lot colder at times. The rest of you are whining about nothing.

Rain that freezes into ice on the ground and on power lines is no joke, however. Time to rewatch, "The Icestorm," an excellent film.

Its on a 40 amp circuit...220v so no.
I'll have a 1500w 110 heater on an extension cord in there. Its enough to hold the heat above freezing, most likely, but its going to be in low teens with single digits a couple nights, and some of these plants puke below 40 for any real period.

Y’all stock up on your bread, milk, and TP?

We always have enough food and TP that a few days of snow isn’t dire. Never really understood the milk thing, if you lose power it’s either going to spoil or you sit it outside and it freezes. We hit the stores Wednesday for a normal grocery run before the sheep come out in force, and I hit the liquor store today. Bring on the snow! Social media is full of videos of empty stores and huge lines, people are dumb.

Snowed off-on all day. Used snowblower in the morning. Snow squalls this afternoon. I’ve shovelled 3 times today including an hour ago.
The city hasn’t plowed our street since Sunday. I almost got stuck today with my Tahoe in 4wd.
Plus it’s windy and cold.

Its amazing how otherwise normal people panic over a bit of weather. The news showed people emptying shelves at Walmart. If I run out of stuff, I will go out and get more. Walmart does not close just over a bit of snow.

They are calling for 10+ inches here starting Friday night. I’m supposed to be flying into Baltimore on Sunday, have a feeling that may not happen….
It's gonna be mostly sleet, freezing rain, and the worst we've had in years here ... pretty sure you can drink at home on Sunday .

It's gonna be an icey mess ... for several days ...

I won't be getting out much .... I hope .

Be safe folks ....

Mostly worried about the ice and then the bitter cold . Being retired we don't have to go anywhere until the ice is gone . We have a whole house generator so we have power covered . But extended power outage AND frigid cold means we will be burning propane at a high rate . Hopefully I have enough propane capacity to make it thru . Stay safe everyone.

Forecast updated to .8 inches of ice for Raleigh

I am afraid it will be a repeat of the last major ice storm we had in 2002, millions were without power for about a week.
Raleigh received .6 inches at the time.

The North Carolina ice storm of 2002 caused up to an inch of freezing rain from December 4–5 in central North Carolina. A total of 24 people were killed, and as many as 1.8 million people were left without electricity on December 6.[1] Power outages began December 4, and power was not completely restored until December 14.[2] Raleigh received the most freezing rain from a single storm since 1948, and Bristol, Tennessee received the most ice it had seen in 28 years. The storm also produced heavy rain in both the mountains and coastal plain of North Carolina.[3] Much of the Southern Plains and the Northeast received snow with this system.
