10 burpees.

if there is one thing about getting older, it might be patience. I am much better about waiting for things. progress is a thing.

I have reached the pinnacle! my pinnacle. 10 measly burpees done with pretty solid form. no trembling upper body. slow, methodical. breathing. hahah.. even my pushup is going down enough. I am not at the point of hopping back into a plank yet. I tried, and I am way jerky about it. I dont want to tweak anything.

sets of 10. trying for 50 a day. hahah..then 100 by December.

patience. I'll get there. who's with me??

Last year, I started doing push ups. I was doing about 20 pushups with my feet elevated on the 4th step of our staircase. When my mom passed away in Nov, I stopped and haven't started back up. I've been sick since just before Christmas (a gift from the grandsons), but have started thinking about starting back up. When I'm back to feeling 95% or so, I'm planning to start back up. I need to hit the treadmill again too.

My standard morning routine for the past couple years is 40 sit-ups followed immediately by 40 push ups (which is what was required in my Army basic training in the 80's). Sometimes I will get on a pullup kick and a couple times a week do 1 set. Presently I can only do 10 as I have slacked off.... but a couple years ago I got up to 16. I don't typically do any other form of "exercise"... I have never joined a "gym". I do play pickleball for 2-3 hrs twice a week.

That said... I have much respect for those who consistently do the gym routine.

For me at 59.5 I just try and keep from being fat and maintain my ability to pass the Army PT test I took in 1984. Lol

Remember the sadistic guard in Cool Hand Luke? (I think this is the correct film!) My Jr High Gym teacher emulated him. It was like boot camp. Coach Crutchfield. What an absolutely AWFUL human being. To contrast just how much I despise this guy, the other notorious teacher at that school was a pedofile who jumped to his death after getting caught. I hate him far far less than Crutchfield.

And he introduced me to burpees.

Do something wrong and it was time for "burpee work" in the back with his psychopathic 8th grade enforcers.

So, I am not super excited about burpees. They may be tainted with some less than positive memories.

I will pass.

(sorry for the jog down memory lane. I had not thought about those people for a nice long time.)

Good call, I want to start doing pull-ups too. I've been able to do them since HS, and was still able to do some 7-8 years ago, but I suspect it'll take some work to get back to doing any. The hard part is is that I don't currently have anywhere to do them. Hell, in HS I was able to climb a rope using only my arms. I'd love to be able to do that again, but not having a rope to climb...

We climbed the rope a lot in wrestling. It is crazy how much harder they are with no feet and legs elevated to form a V horizontal to the ground.
I just started using my total gym someone gave me. Good way to creep back in. Very smooth machine.

I have no idea if I've ever done one. I had PE every year except my senior year. Maybe I did, but I don't remember.

^^^ That was our gym teachers favorite punishment.
Along with 'dodge ball' that's all we did....it seemed like.

When I was about 50 some of my old college buddies started challenging each other with pull ups at our now annual ski trip. Of the 12 of us there a coup[le didn't even try, A couple got 3-5 and I think three of us got maybe 7 max. From that point on the few of us who could still do them started practicing and video posting our best results via a chat app. Myself and one other are always at the top with my 16 a couple years back being the top of the heap.

This reminds me I need to get back at them and lose about 6 or 7 holiday pounds prior to our annual March Ski trip. Am guessing 12-13 would win it this year.

A friend and I were out riding our bikes and, on a whim, stopped by a local gym. This is an old school gym. No Stairmaster, smoothies, yoga, machines, preening inflata-men, hot chicks in Lululemon. Just wiry people and a whole lot of iron. We call it the Church of Iron. So we were mincing around, in our padded bike shorts and bike cleats, looking at the denizens. There was exactly one hot chick in the place, but she was quite a specimen. She walked by us, as we sucked in our guts, went to the pull bar, and proceeded to bang out twenty pullups, deltoids like coiled rope and biceps like three of ours. The guy at the front desk called out to us, loudly. “Hey, you want to lift?!” We ran out of the place as fast as our tappy little cleats could take us.

I can do 3 sets of 10. I've never attempted to go for more. I think I'm losing my form by rep 5 of the third set.
