Bidet folks, ever run out of warm water?

We are thinking about getting a bidet. I've never seen anything other than rave reviews, many here.

We're looking at options, and notice that some have "instant-on" water heaters so you always have hot water, and some have small tanks so you could potentially run out of warm water.

We're curious to know if you've ever run out or if the tanks are more than adequate.

Thanks

Around here, we add anti-freeze to them.

We've actually had a bunch of threads about bidets. Having the water back there go from warm to icy seems like it could be shocking and unpleasant.

Vash is or was the kind of unusual threads, although I do try to do my part. And there are a few of us Steves that work hard to keep things going in that regard.

Bidets are impractical w/o hot water circulation. A bidet seat has the water ready at all times. They are programable as well so you can shut it off if everyone is at work or on vacation. My wife tells me the warm seat is a necessity. OK, whatever.

Bidet seats are not cheap but a separate bidet requires space and a lot of plumbing. I've installed some in remodels. PITA (replace "pain" with pleasure). No, really, very expensive to retrofit.

If the power is out you get nothing (remember for the seat you have to run electrical to behind the WC).

When it happens, you don’t need as much water.

We have power. We are talking about just an add-on seat. Most of the seats that have heated water seem to either have a small tank that they keep warm, or some have instant on hot water. I'm curious about the folks that have the tank style if they ever find themselves getting a shock because they've run through the hot water in the little tank. I've never used a bidet, and have no idea how things work in practice, the amount of water required, etc...

We have a Toto bidet seat. Works great, all sorts of settings. Nice and fresh after use. TP is barbaric once you go bidet. No, never ran out of HW with the tank in the seat.

Get a TOTO you will be happy.

Steve, buy a Toto. That's the last word in these things. They are spendy but Toto USA does have a refurbish program that is rather affordable. Last I checked it was a full job for $125, shipping exclusive, but they send the box!

Which means you can buy refurbished or open box, both of which are sanitary. I've done that 2wice now (the first one we had so long that Toto removed if from the eligible list) and never had a worry. Kohler makes a decent one that comes in 2nd place. Not a thing wrong with a Kohler and they can cost less.

There is absolutely no potential for shock. You are required to use a GFCI anyway, even if an old house has a 2-wire system (they work under that circumstance).

My wife never turned off the heated seat for over 6 years. And that's not what failed. What happens with these is calcium build up on the little valves and they can start dripping. They drip right into the pool of water which is annoying. You can access the tank for a periodic vinegar treatment. Otherwise they are ToToally silent.

I have never used one that I can remember. If I did, that tells you my impression, but I'm sure it is a convenience you can get used to and probably take a liking to.

It appears that she didn't do a good job of scrubbing hers out.

I gave one (Costco - don't remember the brand) to my wife for Christmas some years ago. She referred to it as "the best Christmas present ever." After a number of years, it died, & I replaced it with a Kohler. She liked the old one better, since the seat was always warm (apparently the Kohler seat warms up when sat on) and it had a blue light always illuminating the toilet bowl. I've never used it.

That's what I'm looking at, a C5 (tank) which is the predecessor of the S5 (instant-on).

Right, by shock, I didn't mean electrical. I was talking about the spray going from warm to cold when/if the tank runs out. I didn't expect that to be an issue, but my wife wanted me to ask if the tank is adequate.

We have hardish water (is hard, but could be harder), so the ability to do a vinegar treatment is good to know. Also cool about the restoration and refurbished programs.

The tank seems adequate. I took the Toto apart thinking I could fix it. Really, now way and I'm good at that. The tank appeared as a kidney shape to hold at least a qt. But I'm not sure the whole tank is kept warm. I didn't see any heating element actually in the tank. The ambient heat from the seat will presumable keep the tank at a tepid temp. IDK how warm the water should be.

Not cold, that's for sure!
