US female ski jumper was DQ'd for skis being 1cm too long . That's. 394 . How the heck does that happen ? And who's to blame ? She didn't make the skis . Did quality inspection at the manufacturer miss the incorrect length ? I would think at this level every team/coach has a jig to check the skis . A go/no go test . Very strange .

Who length measurements very from manufacturer to manufacturer.

It is not overall length.

Help me understand , if skis are deemed 1cm too long isn't that the overall length ? I get it that manufacturers can vary the length but someone somewhere has to know that skis for Olympic jumping have to be no longer than xxx . Am I wrong ?

And a men's ski jumper was DQ'd because his boots were 4mm out of spec . He admitted they were new boots and he failed to measure them . His mistake . But he was aware that officials would check the boots .

The favored pairs skaters from Japan just put down an outstanding routine , scoring 231 points ! Their performance was just beautiful. Well done 👏 . I am sure they will win the gold . Unfortunately both US pairs were knocked off the podium

It’s more complicated than I thought… the maximum length depends on her height and BMI.

American ski jumper Annika Belshaw was disqualified (DSQ) from the women's large hill individual event at the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics because her skis were 1 centimeter too long.
The Incident: After advancing to the final with a 98.5-meter jump, the 23-year-old Team USA member was disqualified following a post-jump equipment check, dashing her podium hopes.
The Rule: In Olympic ski jumping, maximum ski length is determined by an athlete's body mass index (BMI). Athletes with lower BMIs must use shorter skis, with the maximum length capped at 145% of their height.
Context: The DQ occurred on February 15, 2026, one day after a similar equipment violation disqualified Austrian ski jumper Daniel Tschofenig, whose boots were too big.
Background: Belshaw was named the 2022 Ski Jumping Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Ski and Snowboard federation.

Enjoyed bobsled and short track yesterday. This Olympics has been a much needed distraction from the world. So many scenes of good sportsmanship by these youngsters too.

The men in those pairs must do challenging shoulder workouts. Sure the ladies are small but supporting them overhead with one hand while spinning....dang.

and what's with curling? Seems like everytime I turn on live coverage it's a curling match.

^^^ Flat the way I think about pairs skating , go grab an 80 lb bag of concrete mix and hoist it over your head while on skates . No way no how . Just amazing .

Curling is getting TV time ( I think ) because of all the " 2 touch " controversy. Controversy always good for ratings

Yep ...

As a total novice... does 1cm ....based upon BMI sound like BS... or does it really matter?

Sux for the athlete ... regardless

If the only one way to get a life-saving serum to your loved one was luge or skelly, and you'd never done either before, which one would you choose?

For me, I think it would be skeleton. Strangely, I think I'd have more 'control'.
