In America, you cant drink until you are 21, however you can get into most clubs at 18. What they used to do was put an X on the underage kids hands who couldnt drink. This was adopted as a symbol of the straight edge movement.

Someone else mentioned no tats while drinking. A girl I used to know and her boyfriend got each other's names on their asses while drunk. They weren't even well done, like 2 inch red block letters, "Todd" and "Sara" Natrually they broke up a few weeks later. Tom. |

OH THANK THE LORD! Dunno how I misread that, luckily I'm not in the tattoing business! Can you imagine? WHAT?! I thought you said on the top of your HEAD!
Thanks for clarifying, that's half as bad.

Last night I went to this new restaraunt here in Sacramento called "Ink"; it's on 28th & N. The inside is kinda post-modern with stainless steel tables and lots of contrasting colors, and the ceiling is full of tattoo-esque art. It seemed that every single one of the staff had huge multi-colored tattoos - I guess it's a job requirement.
The food was "OK"; the only real complaint is the fries were tepid at best, but the grilled shrimp sandwich was yummy.

Seen on the back of a VW Golf being driven by a rather cute tatted goth chick, a bumper sticker that says "Got Ink?"

HoHum
This thread, like most tattoos, has faded and lost its original attraction.

then there is another aspect of body modification, scarring as art. I havent done this personally, but have a few friends who have artwork done by means of scarification. a rather lengthy and painful process.

That is true...a lot of people do seem to be curious about the story of how someone got a certain scar.

"I like my women a little on the trashy side.........." -From a country song a few years back. All it takes is a tatoo to ensure permanent membership in a lower caste.

I have a post-graduate degree, had a respectable career as a scientist, changed careers to graphic design and been successful at that, I am a good father, a decent sailor, have a black belt in Aikido and I have a tattoo to boot. It would seem that some folks out there would dismiss me just on the tattoo alone.
While I do not agree with getting tattoos for external reasons (everyone else has one, I want to fit in; Look at how rebellious I am; I was really drunk at the time; etc) they are a valid means of self expression. People make stupid decisions regarding all sorts of things including tattoos. But that does not mean that all tattoos are stupid nor do I think the mere presence of a tattoo relegates one to a lower caste or is less worthy of respect.

One may be an accomplished professional such as an architect and ride a Harley on weekends with tatoos on his otherwise unseen upper arms. Such an individual will undoubtedly experience the very subtle and very real glass ceiling in the establishment. Now this 'individual' may have little regard for the 'establishment,' and hence the small step out of the box. Right there is the crux of the matter. A little less regard for institution is an expression. A tatoo does an ample job of that. It kinda goes back to, "You can take the girl out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the girl." Now a famous play and movie was based on the wager that that wasn't true. Had the subject waif had a tatoo, it would have been no contest. Who above said that plastic surgeons were busy with their lasers removing tatoos? Why? If there is really nothing about this, then why indeed? Folks, I'm a liitle old fashioned and I know it. I'm not a radical conservative or Bible thumping zealot. I'm not even a decent Republican, although I will admit having grown up smack dab in the middle of that scene. I accept a lot of what's going on. I don't bash gays and I don't protest abortion clinics. I lead a quiet life and I have an opinion on the substance of people's background. That came out here. I debate for fun. If this is not fun, pay no attention to me. But I'm not joining in and getting a tatoo. |

All I know is that the chickies I've dated with their little tattooed ankles have all been dynamite in bed. So tattooed-ankle girls are okay in my book.
