Shower replacement in 2026...
I've gone through the previous shower/bathroom threads...
Our master bath has a tube and separate shower. The shower is a single-stall fiberglass built-in and needs to be replaced. Looks like this will come out in pieces with a sawzall. What's current "state of the art" for replacement? Go full tile? Use one of those multi-piece shower replacements? What's everybody like today? Portland-metro-area-Pelicans - Any recommendations for trustworthy contractors? I'm not sure I've got the time to tackle this one... Thanks for the help. |

I may have a solution for you. My Cousin-in-law is a master tile setter. He did two baths for me. I can't promise that he will take on your job because he typically works for one builder. I can ask if you want me to. You can also swing by my place to see his work if you want to.
Other than that? I got nothin. |

Tile, stone and if shower is large enough, put a seat or bench in there. If shower is big enough have two sets of shower, one regular one, set at 7' height, and the other hand held on a saddle or adj bar. Will grab bar be needed? If this a raised foundation (makes it easier )? Curb-less shower entry to keep from losing one's front teeth. A slab floor can be cut to achieve that too. The hottest thing is Linear shower drain. INstall cubby holes for shampoo. Install a light in there. If you are going gang buster, install an outlet behind one of the top drawer behine the vanity. Have a pig tail connected to an outlet behind the drawer so the hair dryer is hooked up permanently and sits inside the drawer, oout of way, out of sight. Heated towel bar or radian floor heater is nice.

On the shower, try to install the control near the door buy have the shower head on the other side, so when you wife goes to turn on the shower, she doesn't have to run from the water since it comes out the other side.

And I guess it’s easier for the plumber, but a lot of times I see the vanity, toilet and tub valve on the same wall. I can remember bathing our kids with a toilet right there and reaching for the valves. I try to put the tub plumbing on the opposite side now. |
