One year younger than his ex-wife Jane Fonda.
I always thought they made a good couple.

Like him or not, he was a pioneer in cable news among other things.

His America Cup years were fun to watch...I miss the days of the "lead bottomed money gobblers" boats.

I remember a video of him walking the streets of Atlanta. He walked up to the CNN building, gave the door a tug. Locked. Welp, so much for that. Long after he sold it of course.

Watched Braves baseball on Super Station WTBS in the 80's was fantastic! Up until the cancelled post-season - when I lost all enthusiasm for pro baseball.

If there wasn't a Braves game on there were Cubs games on WGN - the other Super Station.

The only night that was different was Wednesday "Game of the Week" night. And even on those nights sometimes it was the Braves or Cubs!

I moved to Atlanta in 76 and you always read something about Ted Turner. We used to go to the Braves games around 78 79 and would sit in the outfield bleachers for a couple bucks. You could bring your own beer back then. Atlanta was a fun town back then.

I worked for Turner Feature Animation in the 90s. Ted came by for an inspection. Word came down that any female employees who didn’t want to get propositioned could stay home that day.

We were developing two movies, calamity Jane and pandora. Then Ted’s wife saw some documentary on ****ing wolves in Yellowstone and we had to abandon a years work to start a movie about ****ing wolves in Yellowstone.

I'm grateful to Ted for TCM. It's a nice respite from commercial TV where I can always go to watch a classic film and not be bombarded with mindless ads.

RIP Mr. Turner...

I watch PTI on ESPN daily and they did a brief obit on him. I was not aware that when the Braves were struggling in the late 70's he actually put the manager on leave to become the manager himself! He only managed a single game before Chub Feeney, the National League President forbid it. Ted then appealed the decision to the commissioner where the decision was upheld. The video of him in uniform in the dugout during the game was priceless.

Among other things, Ted was always an ace pussy hound. I remember a story from back in the early days of CNN when Ted was looking at a gaggle of cheerleaders or something and he said, "I know just what they need and I'm just the guy to give it to them!"

RIP, Ted. Love him or not, he was a uniquely American character.

Ted Turner owns almost 500,000 acres of land here in Nebraska. A big chunk of it isn’t a nonprofit organization. Normally a nonprofit would not have to pay the full property taxes on the land. However, Ted said that would not make them good stewards of the land, and every year paid the full property tax amount.
