When The Stuff Is Locked Up, Do You….

Had this thought this morning during a trip to Walmart. When you need a normal household item and it’s in the clear display case jail, do you walk away or try to find the elusive associate to get you said item, then pay for it individually, and then go about your day?

For me I walk away out of principle. Today it was like $8 worth of disposable razors for my wife. YGBSM, we’ll go to Walgreens down the street where items aren’t in jail.

Theft is so bad at Walmart that they won't provide the small red (or blue) carrying baskets for customers any more.
They tell me that the baskets never return to the store.

I hate that when I need a handful of items and am forced to roll a huge cart around to get them. I have walked out of the store for that reason alone.

Lowe’s and Home Depot do not carry the small baskets either. I grab one of their 5 gallon buckets and leave it at the self checkout when I’m finished.

I can’t think of anything I bought, that was in the anti-theft jail.

Absolutely, Ralph's Grocery which is Kroger has the entire area next to the pharmacy cordoned off with a separate register. I went in, saw that 2 years ago and have never been back. Their produce was always second rate, prices were higher even using their stupid card.

All that stuff in the personal care section is bought online with a much better selection.

I go to 2 no-card stores and they have better prices every day with sales for even better deals. One has actual butchers that wait on you personally. Ralph's does have a good bakery and deli where they wait on you personally and a lot more wines and beer. Still, that doesn't justify being in a ghetto store.

And then there's Aldi where savings are real. But I don't care for the place. It's weird.

I thought it was only in bad, bad CA so its happening in your part of the country too? I don't go to Walmart, too far and don't feel like sitting in traffic. Our local Riteaid is started to get that way. What a fooking mess we have to deal with. Its only going to get worst with AI killing jobs for the middle class and the lower economic totem pole. What's going to happen? No more retail stores?

I only buy a few things at walmart and they all usually require an associate - 22 ammo, shotgun ammo (sometimes on open shelves, sometimes not), fishing tackle. Much easier for me to grab what I need plus a extra box of 22 ammo and get someone to check me out. Occasionally I call the store from my cell (it is one number off a friend of mine's number from when we were in high school) and ask them to send someone back to sporting good so I can get my ammo. No lines and never wait long for someone to show up.

If I go to any business and they make me feel less than welcome... I walk away.

The local Walmart here has spray paint on lock down. I asked an associate why and they said they were having a problem with kids spray painting things in the store. What is the world coming to?

RE: Laundry soap. Tide is apparently a traded commodity among the less fortunate. Tide has brand cache. Which is odd.

And the lock up? I bet I move on 97% of the time.

I almost never darken the doors at Walmart, but when Canadian Tire had a great price on a set of four snap ring pliers, you can believe I flagged down a staff person. She not only retrieved the item, but carried it to the checkout.

I was at Walmart in the self checkout lane. One of my items was a tube of butane (that was not locked in a case). I scanned it and a few seconds later some guy reaches over my shoulder and scanned something. I looked around and said “what the heck are you doing?” It was an employee who got a notification on his phone as soon as I scanned it and he came over to OK it. Big brother is watching.

Lots of states have laws requiring you to be over 18 to purchase aerosol anything. The self checkouts won't let you check out until someone confirms.

As to spray paint, the paint aisle in my local Lowes is covered with paint spots from folks that insist on checking the color of the paint...
