I am new to this social media thing beside here and one other place. Registered on Facebook about a months ago looking for a couple items on Market place. I ended up not buying anything there. I did ask a person some question about their item for sale only that I never got a response back yet every couple day or so, I seem to get the same notification from this person only that there's nothing on the inbox. Is there way to delete that or block it.

The other thing is, there's a bunch of people out there now want to be my friend or want to catch up. These aren't desperate house wives but normal folks that have normal jobs so I assume. Both men and women but I do not know any of them but my old plumber. he ended up opening a Mexican restaurant with his wife. You know, I aint eating any of that food after he's has his hand in it.

Yes, you should be able to clear notifications, and you should be able to either ignore or block requests. Are you browsing to it in a browser, or are you using an app on your phone.

You should be able to go into "settings & privacy" and the privacy settings are probably where you want to go. They don't make it simple, because they want all of that crap to pester you until you relent.

First of all, Facebook is not what you may or may not think it is.

It is well-documented that Facebook algorithms are specifically designed to keep you coming back thereby increasing your exposure to whomever Facebook sells your data to. It (Facebook) cultivates an addiction to it. This is not hyperbole or exaggeration. It’s a psy-op.

So beware.

I get friend requests often. Unless I do know then in person I just block them It has been nice to find old friends from across the country. I post very little, and mostly read about what my real friend and family are doing.

I have never trusted the marketplace. More scammers that legit people.

Nothing is intuitive anymore so I always have to Google my question, find a how-to page and follow the steps. I still like FB for interaction with lifelong friends but I am not interested in chatting with some Chinese catfish scammer who wants to be my friend. I do also use FB marketplace to good effect but screen and block nuisance interactions quickly. Scammers always have a tell.

Jeff.....just Google your question - and you will get the advice you need. That's what I do. Nothing wrong with asking the Pelican brain trust either. It's just usually faster to use Google.

This morning I responded on FB to a UK seller who had some Interceptor parts for sale. We made an agreement on a part that is NLA and hard to find.

I try to stay away from all the drama stuff.

I use a stupid, made up name for FB, mainly so I can look at FBMP for car parts and tools. I think I signed up about a year or two ago and I have zero friends!

I shop on marketplace virtually every day. Many flakes. Some scammers. And some things worth getting. Just like Craigslist or the classified ads in newspapers from way back.

Yeah, I ask one question if all hardware are intact. No answer for days, now I am bombarded with their message only upon opening them, nothing. Not a fooking thing but facebook seems to keep telling me through my email there's a message from them. I am not sure if its from them or this is facebook's doing because this is my first time and should be my last on facebook. Sick of these people trying sell of their shirt trying to make a few bucks and don't have the decency to to return a message.

I don't care what people are doing since I haven't seen them for a long time. What a mess this has come to be. Everyone seem to want to connected or show what they are doing for all to see.

I did the same thing several years ago (signed up for FB to access Marketplace). The same day I signed up, I was inundated with 'friend' requests from people I haven't had contact with for decades. Since I'm not actively seeking out friends, real or imaginary FB friends, I just ignored it all. But after a few weeks, I decided to unplug myself completely. That was a process in its own right! It's like trying to escape from Scientology.

Funny story RE: FB.

My cousin told me years ago that she would only communicate with me if I signed up on FB. So I did. Weeks later, my ex FWB who happens to be Dutch, lovely, 6' tall, genius, and can drink all my college buddies under the table "friends" me. My wife had been significantly threatened by former FWB despite my dropping her like a rock when future wife came into my life.

We are getting into bed one night and wife says (acusatory tone!) "Did you sign up for FB?"

Yes, I said.

Did you friend XXXXX? (Even more acusational tone!)

Yes, I said.

Pause...Did you see her picture I ask?

Yes. She says. Small smirk.

She didn't age well, I say.

Not really, says wife.

Laughter ensues from both of us.

And, conflict over. Hilarious. Lesson: Dutch beer isn't good for long term beauty.

Over a decade ago I was volunteering with a high school team that my sons were on. At one meeting we were told that all of the team information and scheduling would be over Facebook.

So I signed up.

Immediately I was getting friend requests from people from elementary school, friend's ex's, Relatives ex's, high school kids, ex co-workers....many people I wanted nothing to do with.

I wiped out that account and told the faculty advisor that he could text or email me anything I needed to know.

A manager at work told us we needed to sign up with Linked In. Same crap, but with more advertising. Also ditched that account.

I don't have any social media. I don't see any benefit.

I think I got it under control for now. We will see. No more of this social media crap. Simplify my life not complicated it is the key here. I don't need to know what my Jr high friend is doing on his or her vacation in Finland or dive in the sea if Japan. Who the hell cares

I just had my most positive FMMP place experience. I had two excellent transations out the gate, but then about a year of crap experiences...

but today was awesome. I bought a used coffee maker that was clean clean clean and very budget friendly.

I will descale it tomorrow and buy some filters. I have family coming and I refuse to make my usual pour-overs repeatedly for them. love them dearly, but not 6 pour over level love.

be patient, and I took a friends advice to post up some sort of self picture to get more responses and he was correct. still have not found a PWC trailer, but I will have coffee.
