Yep. Their store, their rules. If you don't like them, shop somewhere else. It's not like Walmart is the only store in town - yet.

I am required to show my receipt at Cosco. I know it is a small percentage of people that are not honest and steal so this helps descourage it.

I was at Walmart a few weeks back at the self checkout. The cashier comes over when my scanner starts freaking out. He said the guy before me must have left without paying.

Show them your receipt. What's the issue? They aren't harassing you. They are doing their job. Shoplifting is rampant. Costco has made folks do this since their founding in the 80's.

Some here might already know this....Walmart check-outs and self check-outs can both be used as ATM machines. If you have a Walmart CC to buy gas at a nickel off per gal., you can check the box at the machine for 'additional money back' when checking out in the store.
The cash you request is put on your card and if you pay the balance off each month...it's no diff than an ATM. I no longer have a WM CC, but that's what I did for years.

About 3 years ago, I was using the self-checkout in the store when I looked down and saw green cash in the bottom slot for bill change. (obviously someone had done the same)
I picked it up and quickly fanned through it...it was all twenties and about 8-10 of them. I noticed a WM worker posted in the self service area so I held the bills up and waved to her. Before she even made her way to me...a young gal came running over from the entrance door and saw me with the bills. She said "Oh thank you...I forgot to take them"

It was obvious that she was the owner, so I just laughed and said "You're Welcome"

It is a problem to show a receipt? With all the nonsense going on don't you think stores have a right to ask?

I have 2 Walmarts to choose from. One doesnt check and the other checks if I have cases of cokes or beer. I dont care. They lose $1000 per day to thieves.

When you're exiting Walmart your receipt is being checked by a retiree probably living on social security and trying to make ends meet. She's basically unemployable elsewhere and so grateful to have a job she tries her best to do what she was hired to do. Respect your elders, humor her and be polite. You never know, in ten years you might be replacing her.

When I used to build convenience stores in '83 the owner told me that if a pack of gum was stolen it took the sale of 5 more packs to put him where he would be profit wise if he SOLD that first pack.

I never did the math. If I did I suppose I would know his mark up. Or he may have been exaggerating. I just tried the math: I think his MU was 40% assuming he was counting the lost profit on the stolen pack. I wonder what his accountant thought about that knowing that there was some handling labor for the stolen pack. Actual loss seems different.

Anyway, there was no candy within reach of the customers, which for candy was a lot of school kids. Those are 2 reasons I never owned a store.

They're all old at my Walmart. Like in their 80s. Regardless of age, they're not being paid enough to take crap.

Walmarts net profit margin on goods sold is 3.1%. They rely on volume

I'm going to ask to speak with the security manager next time I go shopping. Not to get the employee in trouble, but so we can all deescalate the situation.
And you're exacerbating the situation. If you hadn't ever given her any crap, it would likely be over by now. She's on a power trip, and you're on a control trip.

Only partially correct, Walmart pays their employees so little, many are on government assistance.

Former acquaintance of mine from school used to work in a big box store. He would have friends come through the line with a trash can and scan them out.

Good thing noone checked the weight of the trash can...

We started using their app. We shop for all we need, mostly fresh fruit, and go to an aisle with little if any traffic. I open the app and scan each item with my phone and when done, count the items in the cart. We roll towards the door, as I slid a button across and it charges my credit card, and displays a large QR code on my phone. We walk through a large gantry that evidently magically reads the QR code, and we don't even break stride out the door most every time. Zero lines to wait in, and easy to do.
As I understand it, the gantry/arch thing you walk through looks at your cart with cameras and must be able to use this information to associate your cart with your transaction. They are looking at a small handheld device (phone?) and almost always just wave me through and don't even look at the receipt or the cart.

Isn't this called "minimum wage rage" or "Minimum wage, maximum power" or something?

The thing is - the security guard is on camera and if the boss watches and 'doesn't' see them checking then the security guard gets the talking to, so I'm not interested in fluffing up for the security guard; it's not their fault.

I never have a paper receipt. After I slide the button to pay on the app, it charges my credit card. Seconds later, the large QR code appears on the phone. I walk through the arch thing, and it obviously scans the QR code, and likely counts the number of items ion our cart. About once in 10 times, the clerk scans several items in the cart, and we then go through. I am emailed a receipt.

We normally go in, get our fruit, and get out without talking or interacting with any employee at all.
