Question, Where will this end?
I'm in a battle of wills with the new 'Asset Protection Customer Host ' at my local Walmart. Every week she wants to see my receipt, and I refuse. I really don't want to waste my time, or appreciate her intrusion, so I just keep walking and politely tell her she needs to get the cashier that checked me out to join us first. We go through the same thing every week, except she keeps getting more demanding, with me politely sticking to my guns.
So my question for y'all is, where do you think this'll end? What recourse do I have if I'm falsely retaining for shoplifting? And yes, I'm starting to feel harassed.

My guess is you will probably reduce your shopping at Walmarts and eventually quit entirely.

This sounds like the beginning of a dystopian A24 movie.
So it could go anywhere. Fast. Relentlessly. Tragic.

Just somebody doing their job and trying to earn a living. Just show her the GD receipt.

Same drill here at the local Costco...showing your receipt as you exit the store.
Either just go with it and flash your receipt as you pass by the 'host'...or find another place to shop.

My walmart has two entrances. I only go there a few times a year but its always the same girl. What a job. Im not sure if that would be a dream job or the most boring unfulfilling job there is.

Agree with Paul.....just show her the receipt......
![]() My concern is not thanking my Walmart associates enough for the job they do - day in and day out. And dealing with entitled low lifes......

When you checkout it gives you the option of printing a receipt or emailing to your online account.
Just tell her you're saving the environment by going paperless and you'll text it to her once you get home. Ask her for her cell number, bet she won't hassle you again.

Walmart and HD have been doing that for years.
Do not be mad at the person, they are just doing their job. Be mad at the low lifes that steal and force big box stores to do this. There are a lot of places that are more intrusive than Walmart. |

The Walmart in my area hasn't done the door receipt checking for a few years now. I don't know why they quit...but they do still have greeters at the doors..
They might have more cameras now...they just finished a store remodel.

Eventually you will be banned from shopping at the store via facial recognition.

I couldn’t guess where it will end, at some point they could politely ask you not to shop there anymore-
The “new normal” sucks, but I agree with 911boost. It doesn’t need to be a battle of wills. It’s a frustrating situation due to how many idiots walk out with merchandise without paying. It ends up costing us all more money to cover losses. Costco has been checking receipts for years at the door, it really only takes about 5 seconds. Certainly your choice to continue to shop there or not. |

Showing the receipt time after time isn't a big deal. I pretty much stopped going to Home Depot or any of the big box home centers in the past 10 years. Order it from my local lumber yard of have my guys pick up some of the stuff and my blood pressure stays normal.
My complain is, when I went back then, why is the person checking the receipt must see it yet they never check the actual items against the receipt? Thief my azz . Some items are bit heavy, bulky, and couple of 10' copper pipe on me makes the Beijing acrobatic looks like child's play so I let it all go on the floor get the receipt our of my pocket just to have them look at it for a split second only to try like hell to grab it all into, under my arms again yet the fooker just saw me paid for it. It was right in front of them. Its pretty simple, use better judgement. Sure they are doing their job, but be reasonable.

I also cannot stand the self checkout, they are losing money hand over fist on that, but it’s an equation, shrink versus employee cost. I do not like that it eliminates jobs that can be a good start for some people and a stepping stone to higher level retail positions for others. I am not upset I do not focus on retail security anymore. Bill |

We shop as Sam's Club. They also want to see a receipt if you use the checkout.
We started using their app. We shop for all we need, mostly fresh fruit, and go to an aisle with little if any traffic. I open the app and scan each item with my phone and when done, count the items in the cart. We roll towards the door, as I slid a button across and it charges my credit card, and displays a large QR code on my phone. We walk through a large gantry that evidently magically reads the QR code, and we don't even break stride out the door most every time. Zero lines to wait in, and easy to do.

I watch a lot of those crime shows. Forensic Files, Unusual Suspects, 48 Hours, etc.
Between DNA and Walmart receipts they solve a heck of a lot of crimes. Pro tip: If you're going to buy a shovel, tarp, zip ties and duck tape at 2 AM, don't do it at Walmart. They'll have footage of you walking in, going through checkout, walking out and driving away.

You go there to save money in their store, why not cooperate with their rules? You wind up looking like an ass doing it your way.
