Yes, but that's not the whole story. The Bull Terrier was bred originally for fighting, but since has been bred for appearance. They are expensive dogs. The dogs that are typically used for fighting are not Bull Terriers, but Pit Bulls. Different breed. None the less, all Terriers have the "killer instinct". Rest assured, a West Highland Terrier may look like a froo-froo dog, but they can be quite fierce. A Westy would have the same determination despite pain that the Bull Terrier pictured obviously had. Here's a Yorkshire Terrier belonging to a relative. It didn't like our Bouviere Des Flandres.

Bull Terriers were not bred to fight. They were farm dogs whose job it was to latch on to the nose of an animal (bull) & wear it down so the farmer could slaughter it. The fighting began when morons bet that "my dog's tougher'n yours." Any strong dog has the capacity to cause serious injury. The liability is totally that of the owners. Are there bad bulldogs, sure. Are there bad poodles, sure. Problem animals should be put down. It's just too bad we can't do the same with problem owners.:)

On top of all of this, you get uninformed buffoons like Slammin Sammy makin broad, sweeping statements which would be comparable to me making broad, sweeping statements on the origin of the universe.SmileWavy

Ted, the dog in the pic doesn't look like a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. He looks more like a APBT. But they don't have any reason to hang their heads either.

New ATTS Scores Put Pit Bulls on Top in 2006 Testing for Stability

Once again, pit bulls ranked in the top ten percent in the American Temperament Test Society test, which measures a dog's stability in several real life situations. Pit bulls beat out Golden Retrievers by a whisker in 2006 with a score of 84.1% compared to the Goldens' score of 83.8%.

the one coming out of the tunnel is an English bull terrier doing an agility trials course, spuds McKenzie type.
the same as the one with the quills in its head that Sammy keeps slamming for picking on a porcupine.

sorry i couldn't find any photos of my neighbors Staffordshire/dane mixes here at work but when i get home i know i have some from when they were little puppies

I looked again & I believe you are correct, "Bulldogs can lock their jaws & I heard porcupines can launch their quills." Maybe he was across the street.;)

Hopefully that shot with the cubs was taken with a 5000000 mm lense. Dude I'm no bear expert but that looks pretty dodgy...

Nope. I'm about 40-50 feet away. I'm wading the river from the same bank. Look at her belly. She's so full of salmon she has little interest in me.

The picture of the bear by the rock was closest. The bear didn't see me (I was sitting on the rock). The bear lumbered through the brush and splashed into the river directly behind me. We were both startled. I could have touched her with my fly rod.
