The History of the 392 HEMI The original 392 HEMI engine was introduced in the new 1957 model year Chryslers and Imperials. It replaced the 354 cubic-inch version of the original HEMI launched in 1951. Compared with the 354, the 392 was completely revised and improved, with larger valves and ports, a beefier block and crankshaft, and improved bearings. In short, the 392 HEMI, often referred to simply as the “92,” was perfect for drag racing. More than a few racers bolted on six or eight carburetors, slipped in a hotter cam, tipped some nitro into the tank and went racing. Racing legend Don Garlits ran a 392 in his Swamp Rat I at record speeds of over 180 mph on nitro with no supercharger. Garlits also used a 392 HEMI to officially break the 200-mph barrier when his Swamp Rat went 201.34 mph at Atco, N.J. in 1964. My office manager's father and grandfather built an '46 ford with a 392 and a hand cast intake manifold with 8 single barrel carbs, won the Oakland Roadster show about a million years ago. Very yellow, still has it. The grandfather was crew chief on an Indy 500 winner, saw the ring

i think Ireland recently changed all traffic signs, but UK hasn't and i was once told that when it comes to engineering, serious engineering such as Nasa, submarines and jets, in the US the standard is Metric i think it was an ex Boomer submariner who told me that, can't remember |
Base 12 is much better for most things. Divisible by 2, 3, 4 and 6.
Makes for better proportions and better balance in architecture and other things. Metric was dumbed down for those that count with their fingers.. Miles per hour is a much better scale. 100 is fast. kph is slow. Fahrenheit as well. 100 degrees is Hot! And 0 degrees is cold! 100C and your dead. A scientific system forced on poor humans..:p |
Yeah, the UK uses mph, pounds, stones, pints, etc....
|
NASA also has issues remembering if they are adding up in metric or not.. makes for costly creators in mars
