Both very cool. My first car was a '65 Impala. I've got a soft spot for some of the years. '58-61 and '65 are my favorites.

This alligator was found between Athens and Palestine , Texas near a house.
Game wardens were forced to shoot the alligator- guess he wouldn't cooperate...
Anita and Charlie Rogers could hear the bellowing in the night.
Their neighbors had been telling them that they had seen a mammoth alligator in the
waterway that runs behind their house, but they dismissed the stories as exaggerations.
"I didn't believe it," C! harles Rogers said. Friday they realized the stories were, if anything, understated. Texas Parks and Wildlife game wardens had to shoot the beast. Joe Goff, 6'5" tall, a game warden with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, walks past a 23-foot, 1-inch alligator that he shot and killed in their back yard.

Many hills around there? Low look angles? That thing looks like it's up on a pretty tall pedestal.

How big? 10 meters or so?

That's a Teeny one. 14M diameter:D We've done up to 34M.

The main reason for the bunkhouse is that the system equipment is housed there with fiber IFLs to the main control room. Extremely serious lightning there so the further from Control the better. NASA used to track from here during the Moon missions.

You've got a bunch of them. Gov't work?

70SATMan 03-24-2007 09:26 PM

Crap! I JUst noticed. That "finished product" antenna is the not the same one from the lift sequence and me on the manlift. It's the second one we put in at that site 3 yrs later. It's a 13M Ka. THe first was a 14M Ku/DBS. Same basic structure design though. Same blockhouse design.

masraum 03-24-2007 09:30 PM

My company's biggest is only 13M. Yowza, 34M is big.

Very cool. I'm more of a data guy and pretty much an RF idiot. I know just enough of the acronyms to be trouble. I understand how it works.

We've got some C band and K DBS stuff. We provide voice/data for mostly the oil industry.

We are basically a commercial group that's now owned by GD. Previously we were TIW, Vertex, VertexRSI. We've had government contracts with JPL, Goldstone etc in the past. Mainly we build for Lockheed, Boeing, Intelsat, Echostar, Direct TV etc. My current project is part of a Lockheed project replacing the Navy's UFO communications. We're providing the antenna systems as fixed price COTS (commercial off the shelf).

That antenna I posted in error with the small aquisition antenna mounted on the rim of the dish was built for Boeing Space Systems use.

I'll have to post some pictures of a Telescope we just finished at the South Pole.
