My Dad flew Corsairs (ground based) in the Caroline Islands and Wildcats (carrier based) from the USS Savo Island, CVE 78, during WWII. His carrier squadron VC-27, was the highest scoring squadron for all escort carriers during the war claiming 62 Japanese planes shot down in 1944-45. Below is a picture of my dad's Corsair clock that he 'liberated' from one of his rides as well as a piece of the flight deck from the USS Savo Island. Dad was a plank holder for the 1000th catapult. The other picture is the bridge of the Savo Island showing VC-27's victories.
Dad died last October at 93 - the day after coming home from his honor flight to Washington DC. I miss him. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1407444106.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1407444131.jpg |
