Thanks for the kind words! Actually I did. On the buggy forum at TheSamba.com. It is also documented as the "ECVW" trip on that same website. Here is another I am building. Just started buffing after wet sanding the paint. Then found out I am out of Perfect III stage 1 compound. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1410396456.jpg |

You are dead on. We followed I70 into CO, then up to Golden, from there on into CA we ran back roads and semi-back roads. Here we are stopping on the first exit west of the loop around Indy to pick up another buggy to the group. You can see Chris in his blue Number 7 Monocoque Manx on the left side of the picture. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1410396779.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1410396829.jpg |

When I "ran" Pikes Peak, I unloaded everything including the cooler to help lighten the buggy. That was a blast. As soon as we got out of eye sight from the toll booth, I turned it on. We go-pro'ed filmed it, but do to breaking several laws, I cannot post it. Once at the top, I got a little rattled thinking someone I passed in a curve may point me out to the authorities, so, I placed a rag over my license plate to keep from being identified. (not thinking I would have the only bright orange buggy, in most likely 40 miles on top of that mountain). http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1410397567.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1410397846.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1410397932.jpg |

That weekend our local Aircooled club was invited to be in the International Auto show. But we were placed on the upper level of the Civic Center. They hoisted all of our cars this way both in, and out. Here is my original paint '73 Thing. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1410398517.jpg |

Not that one, but I do know that it was remodeled in recent years. This was in Altadena boarding Pasadena. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1410405512.jpg That was Altadena in 1908. We found some photos that had a horse drawn wagon sitting outside the house on the street facing south toward Pasadena. I still have a piece of old growth Pine about 24" x 70" (not a glued up piece) sitting in my shop from that place thinking it will be worth something one day. It is still straight as an arrow. Jeff |

Craned onto 2nd story as an exhibit during the international car show. Then crane lifted back out after the show. The '69 to '73 Things had gas heaters and no side raised air intakes. '74 to '78 switched to heat exchangers and needed the "dust free" air to blow the heated air into the cabin. Thus, VW installed the "ear muffs" or "Hamster Cheeks" to get the air intake up out of the dust created by the rear wheels. Only '73 and '74 models were imported to the US. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1410441053.jpg |
