Back about 15 years ago I told the wife I was thinking about building a cobra kit car.
She said how much?
I said bout $40k
She said ouch.
Then she said why don't you fix up old cars and sell them like you did when you were younger, and work your way up to the cobra?
The next day i drug home a 2 liter 914 minus fuel injection.
I hit the pick-a-part when i saw a chrysler leBaron turbo.
Later a teepee exhaust from a dune buggy, some intake runners for a VW pancake motor. Then a weber 50mm DCOE sidedraft.
I ended up with what's in that pic. It took about a month of tinkering to get it to run clean and smooth.
I kept it at 7 psig boost most of the time but occasionally bumped it up to 9 which was definately pushing the limit.
I retarded the timing about 2 degrees from stock (bosch 050) and ran it rich under boost to control combustion temperatures.
It was cold blooded in the morning and took a few cranks to get it started, and it could have used an aux oil cooler, but it ran well for cobbled together system.
prolly 175 or so HP.
I could walk 5 liter moostangs all day long (ift hey were not well set up).
Ended up selling it and building up a V8 914 after that. Dumb move on my part. Then I bought a 9 eleben.
Never did build that cobra, maybe one of these days.
