When I was young my dad would go to the local dump and pick through the pile of old bikes and pick up a wheel for a quarter, handlebars for a dime. etc. He'd build junk bikes for my three brothers and I, that was the best he could afford and we tended to tear them up as fast as he could fix them.
Then, at Christmas 1972 my younger brother and I got brand new stingrays. Don't know where they got the money, but that was the best Christmas ever. He got the blue one and I was stuck with the yellow one but we all know yellow stingrays are faster (YSAF). |

We were middle class but my folks stretched their dollars and lived very conservative lifestyles so their kids could have stuff once in a while. Those are some cool aerial shots, Craig! Random pic: http://cloud1.todocoleccion.net/disc...6/48674462.jpg |
I had a gold stingray in 69 like the picture above. It was stolen after I left it in the front yard. Worked a paper route, saved my money and bought a green one in 70.
Still have in the garage. |

Broke a few Columbian Workhorse (newspaper bikes) frames when I tried to convert them for dirt riding back in 74. Man, I should have followed through on that idea and maybe folks would be riding DLGs instead of Gary Fishers! |
