"Is that Ted Kennedy on the right? He looks sort of deflated..."

i doubt that sobriety agrees with him.

PLEASE don't politicize this thread, it has been SO good without such stupidity!

BTW Kerry NEVER bragged about his CKs in Vietnam, only stated that he had served and been a decorated soldier (which is true) - AND thought the war was stupid, which I have a lot of respect for him saying and he's obviously qualified to comment on. That said, this thread is now returned to its apolitical glory:

Check out this b1tchin' "Type R" I saw on the freeway a couple of weeks ago:

Oh GOD when will this ricer stupidity end?!?!

I really hope this is not too much, I debated on this but anyway. I even photoshopped it to protect the inoccent. This was taken by me on my job, hey someone's gotta do it. BTW that was my 5th flash of the night so I finally wised up and brought the freakin camera.

this is a copy and paste

"This Common Carrier brought us a frozen load of Gilroy Foods today.
This truck was awesome. You can decide whether or not it is.
Here is some info I took down after talking with the owner operator.
Their names are John & Amy Holmgren. They live in Shafer Minn.
They thought this would be a nice tribute to the people that lost their lives.
This concept was thought up by John and Amy, and totally paid for by them.
John says he will be awhile paying the loan off that he had to take out to do it but, thought this was the least he could do.
Applied Graphics in Fargo ND did most of the work and Paul Kosenski did the
Hand painting.
He said that he got to meet the Country Singer Darryl Worley,
who Sang the song "Have You Forgotten" and has gotten pulled over 3 times
by the police just to get their picture taken by this truck.
(I would have pulled him over too!!)
He plans on attending the Mid America Truck show in Louisville KY in March.
I thought our employees may enjoy seeing the pics.
It is called the Rolling 9-11 Memorial, it has all the names of the people that were killed on that day and the flights they were on plus some other graphics on the side of the Tractor. "

statue... a copy and paste

"This picture of the statue below was made by an Iraqi artist named Kalat, who for years was forced by Saddam Hussein to make the many hundreds of bronze busts of Saddam that dotted Baghdad. This artist was so grateful that the Americans liberated his country, he melted 3 of the fallen Saddam heads and made a memorial statue dedicated to the American soldiers and their fallen comrades. Kalat worked on this night and day for several months.
To the left of the kneeling soldier is a small Iraqi girl giving thesoldier comfort as he mourns the loss of his comrade in arms. It iscurrently on display outside the palace that is now home to the 4thInfantry division. It will eventually be shipped and shown at the memorial museum in Fort Hood, Texas. "

from the surfing author Allan Weisbecker's site
www.aweisbecker.com

The subtle surreality of this image is based mostly on lens selection -- the fisheye. The severe spatial distortion of the super wide angle perspective makes it looks like the Roman candle fire is reaching the horizon (an impossibility) when in actuality it's coming down no more than 100 feet from shore. Although the effect is not obvious at first glance, it's unnaturalness is a bit disorienting, resulting in an edgy vibe that's hard to define. In order not give away the use of the fisheye, I cut the horizon in the middle of the frame. Had I not done this, the severe curvature of the horizon (a major drawback to the use of the fisheye) would have cued the viewer that some lens hanky-panky was used.

The other key to this shot was the brightness of the dusk sky. Complete darkness would not have worked, nor would more daylight. I love this kind of light. When other photographers are packing up, having burned themselves out shooting the sunset (a cliché, anyway), I'm just getting ready for some real, or surreal, photographic fun.

thank you Dave..
I'm a kinda fan of this guy. His site has pics and a history of each.
His books are very fast reading cool boy action. Like a true story of running aground at Montauk Point, Long Island NY, in a pot filled small freighter in the early '70s.. ambiance stuff like that.
anyway... here's another one

" Another example of the mixing of light sources, which frequently imparts a surreal beauty to the image. Done at deep dusk, a one-minute exposure time gives the strange, bluish look to the ocean and horizon. (To the naked eye there was just a hint of light out there; the campsite itself was pitch dark.) I used a spot flash to illuminate myself (the camera was on self timer). In other words, the flash just lit me -- the rest of the scene remained dark and not yet exposed. After the flash went off, I raced around (knowing I had one minute in which the shutter would be open) with my spotlight and "painted" the rest of the scene, being careful not to shine it where I was sitting. Had I done this, my image would have been "ghosted" -- you'd see through me to the bush behind me. (You must remember that my image sitting there was already burned onto the film.) Shiner, God bless her, was used to these sorts of photographic antics by then; I told her to stay still, and she did.

I didn't want to use electronic flash to light the whole scene for two reasons. One, flash falloff would have resulted in the distant stuff in the scene being underexposed. Two, flash gives too stark and uninteresting an effect.

Although this image is not reflective of how the scene "really looked," its surreal beauty is exactly how I perceived the place I'd found in the bush, overlooking one of the most amazing surfing waves I've ever seen. (There was surf out there when I shot this, but the one minute exposure erased individual waves. Still, in my view, it's a great little slice of Big Blue beyond the trees.)

I came to this Pacific campsite just a few days after the culmination of events depicted in my book, In Search of Captain Zero – hence my spaced-out expression. Little did I know that I hadn't seen nothin' yet, in terms of the edgy and dangerous, yet profoundly seductive Down South world.

I wrote most of Parts III and IV of In Search of Captain Zero at this campsite. "
