more on Ypres :
every 3 years there is the Cat's parade i've forgotten why , but Ypres is also known as the Cat's town (for 20 years we had a snackbar on the marketplace called "'t Kattewaad", direct translation , cat's evil, but it's really a name for kids doing cheeky things, sort of like a cat playing around, just doesn't translate that well literally) used to be every year, but costs forced it to become every 3 years this thing is known well in Japan , don't ask me how it became so famous there, but they come from Japan , just to see this... it depicts the history of our town, but also the roll of cats throughout history, from beeing worshipped by the Egyptians, to beeing despised as the companions of witches in the middle ages.. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Egyptians
![]() Celts ![]() Middle Ages ![]() ![]() ![]() as a kid growing up ,i've been in the parade several times, once with the gymnasts, dressed up as a jester doign tricks, then as a witch ( big papermache head, and last time with the horses... the pics don't do it justice, they are from the staging area , before the parade goes into town , it's very entertaining to watch, very interactive... there's a truck with the devils cook pot, cant' find pics, but it's from the highschool last years... they randomly pick folks out of the public, and throw em in the cookpot..(hollow inside, exit via trap door)

Thom,
Nice pic but why wear anything on top if you are going to wear that? Guess I lived in Europe too long...

Interesting pics Stijn, I went to Ypres on a school trip in 1993. I think i've been in that Cathedral - is there a museum there?

you have the market place, then the cloth halls to one side and the Cathedral is behind that , along with the unknown soldier monument... the cloth halls is the one with the In Flanders Fields museum it's a really heavy on the senses ordeal, suddenly the lights go dark, and you hear shelling, with flashes... , or they have a green smoke suddenly come out through plexi tubes with lights under it to simulate a gas attack... i've been there several times , back when i still maintained the website, and every time i still noticed new things...it's not about the generals or tactics, it's about the misery if you went on a school trip in 1993, then chances are you ate fries at the snack bar on the market place we get busloads of british schoolkids and it was the only fast food joint on the marketplace, no macdonalds,.... hell , it's possible that i was there working , it was my mothers place... ![]() this is opposite the cloth halls

a friend of mine in boston has aspirations of becoming a cuemaker. in the meantime he can only afford a small lathe that lets him fix/refurb shafts and install tips. i send my cue to him each time i need a new tip and after seeing it done, have sent at least 10 others not really an ad, just amazing worksmanship. this is before and after of the same cue ![]() ![]() ![]() here's the finished product. the tip is a multilayered Moori, from japan. it has twice as many layers as any other which, once shaped, provides many more ridges for the chalk to settle into. end result, more spin w/ less effort. the black pad under the tip is a type of fibrous impact material designed to soften the hit. keeps the tip in contact w/ the ball longer, giving more control/spin. ![]() blindfolded it is impossible to distinguish where the cue/ferrule/tip meet ![]() |
