tabs never been through the cat thing (have my 1st cat now, 5 years) but my dog of 13 years was starting to go south last year. he was having hip problems and i probally could have nursed him along for another six or eight months. my guilt seems to be the opposite of yours in that did i pull the trigger too soon? there is no right answer when our loved ones are involved in a situation like that. it was by far the hardest day and decision of my life thus far. i have a box with his ashes, his colar and his stainless bowl in my living room so i think of him often. dartis a better dog even dead, than my new one is alive.

speaking of loved ones,, with the holidays over it really makes you appreciate you pets alot more.

We wind up having to play God, the decision of life and death over another creature is an awesome responsibility.

Non pet people don't realise a cat or dog can be as major part of the family as someone else feels about their child. My cat is 17 years old and it will be a sad day for me sometime.

Thanks. She thinks she's a Russain princess reincarnated as a cat hence her very refined habits, LOL.

Tabs,

Dude, my deepest sympathies. It's hard to know whens the right time, your always going to second guess yourself, I still do. Last time it happened, I was in Seattle and a neighbor/friend who was watching him had to take him to the vet and handle it for me. Never got to say goodbye, broke my wife up something awful. I still feel lousy for both my friend and the pet. Stupid, but as was said previously, they do become part of the family.

There's another one out there who wants your company, they'll show up when it's time.

So sorry to hear about your cat passing. That is so hard when a pet passes away. I agree with you that your other pets probably knew what was going on.

When I think about when we had to put our dog Scooter down, it makes me sad because we probably should have put her down sooner than we did. It is just hard to know sometimes and you don't want to prematurely end their life if they can come around.

Again...so sorry for you and your doggies losing your friend.
