Huntington Library - American art gallery:

Too dark indoors to get any good shots, so now I'm saving up for a faster lens

This always ticks me off...
Trying to load pictures of the Huntington library from the cactus garden, same camera, same day, same setting as my previous two posts...
But Pelican rejects them as "file too large".
Anyone know what is up with that?

Thanks for those wonderful bonsai pics, Scott!

Which reminds me.

Just finished a project this morning and the owner had this artistic piece of driftwood laying on the back patio. I had a small open space leftover and decided to put her driftwood there. She gets in tomorrow and I hope she will love this small finishing touch. As a designer, sometimes the best things happen when not planned ahead of time....

complexity of the image. An image of something that doesn't have lots of detail, color, texture will be smaller than an image with lots of detail, color, texture when compressed, because all of that extra stuff doesn't compress as well.

The two images below are of the same composition at essentially the same time, but one has a longer exposure, so lots more detail. The image that's mostly just a very dark blue/black sky is 57k, the image that has more detail everywhere including the sky is over 50% larger at 89k.

This week in Gatlinburg Tn. You had to look hard to see the damage in the forrest. Spots of burnings all over the place. Some hugh buildings destroyed but it looked great.

Another Craigslist find. $600. Runs good. Clutch and gearbox good. Needs brakes and cosmetics. Oh yeah, it has a near perfect set of knockoffs. Worth more than $600 by their self.

This season's massive Sierra snowpack is starting to melt and the falls in Yosemite National Park are flowing like gangbusters.

Was there earlier this week. No big crowds and perfect weather...paradise on earth.

Mountain apples. They all get ripe within a 2 week period. High water content so it'll start drying out as soon as you pick them.

Yumm, mountain apples, great to find on a hike. Tasty and refreshing. Good ballance to guavas, which are much more common to find hiking.

Brian, have you ever tried to dry some?

Cheers Richard
