Baz, stop eating when you get to the bone!

This weekend was the annual Fly in at the Arlington airport, right in my backyard (OK, a mile away).
I've missed it for a number of years now since it used to occur around July 4th when I'm up in the mountains.

My wife and our best friends went in to see the balloon glow event and I was impressed by how well it was attended and the shear numbers and variety of aircraft, military hardware and vehicles present.

I was very happy to get to see what is likely the most accurate flying replica of The Spirit of St. Louis on display.
It was even in the local paper, quite the labor of love:

Also lots of interesting stuff

The balloon glow started off pretty exciting, one of the Balloon crews set the grass on fire with the burner, 2 guys tried stomping out the flames and made it worse. Flames were right at the basket and it looked like things were about to get much worse when someone finally showed up with a fire extinguisher.
I was beginning to think we need to get further away if it gets to the propane tank!

All's well at this point

Fire!
Now with active stomping to make it spread quicker

Extinguisher arrives

Controlled fire

Balloons are not like I remember from childhood... this one kinda looks like a nightmare to me

Another odd balloon!

A butt scratching good time

Hey Skip,
Fan-freakingtastic pics!!!!! You can also post some aviation stuff in a newer thread too if you like. I’m sure they would be very well received.

Came up on this today. Teen girl, distracted driving - too much speed. The left wheels were still turning when I came around the corner and saw it. She was okay but too scared to even think about getting out of the car. It could have been much worse.

Hey Skip - good advice...thanks! I have found 2 of these in my yard so far this year and think they are from a raccoon.

And +1 on Bugs' comment - really nice pics!

Couple of resident Anoles dining on the local fauna and flora - a cockroach for what appears to be a conservative....and a Podocarpus berry for the the liberal.

I know exactly where that is. I used to ride my bike there when I was a kid.

After living here for 23 years....someone is finally going to put a house on the vacant lot behind me.

It was fun while it lasted but I knew this day would come.

The good news is it's only going to be a 2 story and I already have the high ground - plus an established bamboo buffer.

I met the owners today and they seemed like nice folks - and they won't have any kids living there!

So far so good.

Good luck Sir-Baz,

Know how those types of deals go.....

Heavy Friday afternoon traffic from everyone heading up to Tahoe for the weekend. The fall crush has begun in August. Apple Hill farms are pushing folks to visit early because the last couple of years destroys all roads in and out of the area.

Took the pic flying over and to work today
Joy

I took this picture a few days ago - nothing terribly remarkable about it except the number of different cloud types in one photo!

Customers pool. Yes, it is a boat sunk into the ground.

The back is a hot tub.
