Then there are the chicken of the trees. This one comes with its own green tomato for a garnish.

Easy there, Wuhan. We don't need a second pandemic.

Out of the original 4 - I still have 2 rats left in the garage.

Trying something new tonight - glue traps. A last resort for me but at this juncture I just want this off my punch list.

Was trying to figure out how to bait them into treading on the glue and then came up with the idea to put a small island of food in the middle of each board. They seem to like the cat's kibble so that's what I used.

I have my trail camera set up so I can document the action tomorrow and see how it all went down - or didn't. More than likely they will out smart me once again....

Mine certainly seem to be. Suprisingly so.

In looking at my photo I realized I should have placed both those glue traps side by side to provide a larger overall footprint of "stickiness" - and then placed the bait in the center.

The way it is now they can just reach over and take what they want.

Dang...already outsmarted! :D

^ why use a dish? Put less kibble out, and place directly onto the glue. That way they can't jump onto that convenient island that you provided.

Yeah - that was my first thought then I decided to do it this way so I could re-use the glue traps without having a bunch of stale kibble stuck to them.

I think I should have done what I posted above.

Catching rodents is good but won't stop them returning. There is a reason they've been around for so long. There are a dozen more waiting.

Go around the perimeter between the and seal up the gaps between the siding and the rim joist/bottom plate.
Push in a few boxes of steel wool and caulk after. Whatever.
Mothballs and other smelly stuff will also deter them from making a home in your garage.

Found a piece of plastic in the backyard.

No dice last night - the little buggers raided and ate the kibble and the glue boards didn't do squat!

Just as well.....I've never liked the idea of having to execute a living thing myself. I don't like doing it at all, but sometimes it's us or them.

My trail camera didn't work last night so I don't have any documentation of how they did it.

Moving on.....I had to go to HD today anyway to get paint for my truck bed and a bag of quick-crete for a new flag pole, so thought while I was there, I'd browse the pest control department to see if there was anything that caught my eye as a new tack.

Boom...the Havahart model #1025!

I have a couple larger ones that I use for larger pests - so why not a smaller one for a smaller pest?

So it's now set in the garage and hopefully the trail camera will work properly. I used both peanut butter and cheddar cheese on the bait tray. Seems to be super sensitive. If this works I'll be a happy man to be able to re-locate this little bugger in one of the marshes on the island.

Little garden area at the base of my entry. Put the bench there to sit on and then today for the heck of it added these plastic chairs for a "redneck riviera" feel. Eventually I will change it around but for now, as trashy as it looks, those chairs are pretty comfy. :p
