Went out to Yosemite N.P. to see the falls. After this winter's epic snowfall, they're all running at full throttle.

Lower Yosemite Falls. Standing here was like being in a rainstorm.
Surrounding air felt at least 20° cooler as well. Sound was amazing...

Bridalveil Falls

Lots of water in the Valley. Some meadows have become temporary lakes

Flooding's been much worse in the past

Mornin Byron,

What is the back story in the photo shoot, music video or ??

Cheers

A pic of a 66 912 that visited the airport. He was holding short in the taxiway for the big Chinook CH-47 that was in the run up area. Not a very social bloke who came across as annoyed when I attempted to talk to him. A very non-typical air cooled driver. Usually the air cooled folks are friendly and enjoy talking about such things. Must of been an off day for him. Although his white leather gloves were a nice touch as he drove off…

Very nice!!!!

Every now and then our shop get a call of a rescue on the face of Half Dome or the falls via a longline insertion. Gorgeous from the air, especially the valley. Being a NSP, the politics are very interesting when flying in, and that is for official business too and not a leisurely pleasure flight.

A rare chance to drive one of the Sanderson Brothers family 912. Really was a glorious day I can tell you.

Thank you Sir!

The eyes were fascinating to watch. Looked like you could almost guess what it was thinking as you were moving around. Beautiful little snake. The most interesting snake I have come across is a little guy that is usually found about 1000’ higher in elevation. Looks like a worm and if they weren’t so difficult to find a viable food source, I would have a terrarium/habitat full of them. How they locate slug n snail eggs is beyond me but they do….

Very cool. I have run across one or two tiny snakes like that over the years. They do a pretty good job of staying hidden.

Beautiful color and "finish" on that guy. He almost looks like polished metal with copper inlay, or maybe glass tube with color on the inside of the glass or something.

We have these in our yard. They mostly eat earthworms from what I learned. A big earthworm could fight it off I suspect if the worm had a mouth with teeth.

After a lot of edging on a damp day.

I know that I've seen a photo of Byron dressed as a pimp for halloween.

What you all don't realize is that is the only night of the year that he can be himself.

Started out GREAT! Then went to hell. Made me laugh.

THis is also 6 arrows. The group on the bottom left is actually 3 arrows, essentially, in a single hole.

Hahahaha,

Went to hell?????? Remind me never to piss you off if I ever see you with a bow…

Heck of a lot better than I do. So what would cause the walk up and left? With handguns, it’s predictable if you see a consistent walk like that, finger placement, pawing the pull, anticipation, etc

First hover-mower I’ve seen. Didn’t know they were even a thing

Cool hover mower. I wonder how well they work. My guess is that they don't work that well.

There are things that can affect an archery shot in a consistent manner. "Plucking" the string is one, where you pull the string laterally when you release it instead of just a clean release.

The thing about archery, is that there's no rear sight, and there may or may not be a front sight. I don't have a sight on my bow, so there's no front or rear sight. You don't put the tip of the arrow on the bullseye like a front site. If I put the tip of the arrow on the bullseye, and i was standing 50' from the target, my arrow would probably hit the target ~18" to the left of the bullseye.

The key in archery is absolute, 100% consistency of your body from shot to shot to shot. Your front arm has to be in exactly the same position every shot. Your head has to be in the same position every shot. How far back you've drawn the string, and where that string is released from has to be the same for every shot. For me on those shots, it was probably mostly that last bit. You pull the string back and to help you know that you get it pulled back the same every time you touch your face. If one time my hand is firmly pressed into my face, but the next time my hand is lightly touching my face, that 1/4" can make a huge difference at 50-60'. Similarly, if you pull the string back 1/4" more one time than the previous, then the string imparts more force to the arrow, and the trajectory changes so the height of the arrow will change. A relatively small change at the bow can be a huge change on the target.

A pecan tree fell earlier this year. I trimmed up most of it, but left some for the grandsons to use as a jungle gym on their visit in a few weeks. A squirrel visited and went looking for bugs for lunch in the bark.

Thanks for the explanation. I have always liked archery and even have an antiquated compound bow that I honestly have never used. I want to get into it but like everything else, I am finding a hard enough time to change my mind, let alone get into cool stuff like archery. If I pull the plug in December to retire from State Service(30.1 years) I will have more time

Maybe I can finally get to cutting and welding metal on our two 68 912’s.

Regardless, your placement of those first shots are insanely impressive. Looks like you were even using wood shafts and not carbon fiber. I’m sure like all things wood, that can also add a variant as well

My hat is off to you for your accuracy

We have a local shop 1/2-1 acres of antiques. Very unique and cool thinks. One building is very dark and has flickering lights when you enter the back area. Very creepy vibe and it seriously feels like your being watched. the glass and porcelain insulators were just a sample of the cool stuff they have. Owner is a bit off center but very nice. I picked up an old army helmet for a older gentleman I know at the Placerville Airport. He has a WWII spotter plane that is 100% period correct with all the little things. Thought he would like it for wall art. It’s very rough and looks like it’s been buried in sand for several decades.

Cheers

The Flymo brings back memories!
They actually worked pretty well, cut at a consistent height and you could float it sideways, backwards, diagonal... as long as there was not much slope.
They wanted to go down hill and up not so much.
They left no tracks and blew tiny little bits of grass everywhere, damp or wet grass was a messy ordeal.

Thanks Skip! Now we know…. I was kinda fixating on that thing. Tempted by another project I was/am. Do you remember what years they were a thing?

Oh yeah, nice car pics Skip.

We were in Charlotte yesterday and this morning. Went by a few NASCAR race shops that were interesting.

I was amazed at the tiny gap between the hood, fenders, etc.

The seats in some cars were tiny. The drivers must be really small.

At the Penske shop, they had about 12 to 15 mustangs in various stages of construction. One guy got in a mustang and I thought, great we get to hear a motor rev up. The car started moving and it was totally silent. Turns out they're battery powered. Is there a series for battery powered Mustangs, etc.?
