John D makes it very clear that he does not condone members admonishing users and asking them to become members. Of course, there are always those that feel like "enlightening" non-members. Ignore them. Rennlist is and will always be a free site. Unfortunately because of the actions of a few, the classified and now the OT have become "members only" due to abuse.

Actually...they are all racers.

What about you?

Rennlist and Pelican are good for different cars IMO. Pelican is the place for 911's and Rennlist the place for 944's IMO. The racing board on rennlist is getting more populated by hardcore racers recently as well. 914's have 914club, boxsters have porsche pete's boxster board... each car has a forum that is the best for it IMO. 928's I'm not really sure, the 928 forum on rennlist seems to be pretty active. Keep in mind I havent' really had the time to check out pelican in a while (a year or more, if i had to guess).

There are several non-paying members with thousands of posts on Rennlist, so back way off.

This is exactly why I visit here so infrequently.. The BS. Who gives a rats butt if OT on rennlist is "members only". Pony up and cover the cost of your bandwidth fellas.. You know who you are.

There is a very valid reason why OT is members only. The rancid, racist and hateful things being flown around OT, like a 6 year old who just learned to flip the bird, has cost Rennlist dearly- If you dont understand, put the beer down for a few days and think about it. Pelican has a great forum, and a well stocked and well utilized warehouse behind it paying for all this.

Those of you who dont get it.. probably never will.

SOME of us do frequent both boards, but I am on Rennlist daily. I'm here maybe weekly. Lets just wait and see how low this OT board sinks.

FWIW there are some of you I wont miss.

Stray, we need to get Sid and grab a couple of drinks in Hershey next year..

As an active member of both Pelican and Rennlist, I'd like to share a few thoughts:

1. I am a paying Rennlist member - I like the webspace I am allotted there as well as the use of the Gallery section. My homepage is on rennlist: http://members.rennlist.com/zman

2. I am a moderator here at Pelican (944/944 Turbo and the beloved OT forums)

3. I attempt to balance my time between the two boards.

I understand John D's need for limiting access to non-members, but I'd like to point out that here at Pelican, all folks have access to the OT forums. Except for the political mud-slinging and the occasional objectionable picture post, things seem to go fairly smoothly here in the OT Dungeon.

As the Pelican BBS OT Dungeon master, I cannot take the credit for the smooth sailing here. Most of the guys that post here understand the rules, and those that don't get in line after some careful prodding. I do not know why the Rennlist OT forums has difficulties, but hopefully things will get better. BTW: I typically visit the 944, DE/Racing & autox forums on Rennlist, and I look at the OT & 944 forums here on Pelican.

Bottom line: both Pelican and Rennlist are good resources for Porsche enthusiasts - and for the most part, Porsche enthusiasts support one or the other or both. Makes no difference to me - in a sense both Pelican and Rennlist are part of the "Porsche online community."

-Z-man.

NOW I figured it out...I just made a post on their 911 section saying I couldn't imagine having saying something offensive enough to have been banned from their OT, and bidding all farewell. Now that I know it's nothing personal, just the money? Glad that I removed Rennlist from my favorites list...Another funny aside? Because I enjoyed the Brit DDK site so much, I sent 'em a check...they have yet to cash it, months later. I'm sure Rennlist won't miss me. And I won't miss them...SmileWavy

You should have seen some of the posts the non members were putting up... John D made the right decision.

The non-members with big fingers brought it onto themselves.

Oh and...

Although, unfortunately, the number of right-wing nut jobs still outnumbers the sensible moderate contingent on Rennlist. They thoroughly dominate OT there. Though the right-wing nutjobs who posted outright vitriolic racist stuff has declined. I don't envy John D. his job.

I just joined this forum, I have to say I like it. I don't fit the profile of the Rennlisters some people have put forward... I own an 86 928 that was somebody else's project car they gave up on, bought 2 months ago, and has been driven a grand total of 29 miles... in short runs... just long enough to find something else needs fixin'. I have greasy hands, in short. Before that, I owned a 951 that never let me down. No 996 action here.

(Give me a couple more weeks and Sharky will be a driver.)

There's a lot of good posts here... I can see there's a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm on these boards. And of course, I've bought parts from Pelican before so it's a little odd I never checked this board out before...

cheers

Thaddeus

I think we could all benefit from seeing this again: ;)

Damn you Andy! Why'd you have to go do that? Grid Chics are like porn for us Porsche folks... now I'm gonna have to go wash up.. ;)

Hey, you wouldn't happen to have a race prepared 914 would you? i've seen this car in mulhuland. (I'm in the canyons allll the time. What are you driving?

Strange, but I have the opposite expierience from many of you guys. I find less technical content on this board than on Rennlist. Sometimes there is maybe just a handful of new tech posts a day. I visit here maybe once a week a find only a few new when I come here. The response when posting serious tech questions on RL is enormous in my expierience.

I think maybe this board will see new memebers who used to visit Rennlist only for using the OT forum. These members contribute with nothing more than bashing and flaming, and concidering how slow this forum is now (944 forum at least) , they will pretty soon take over this forum completely. I hope the moderators will pay attention.

I just come in to occupy, predominantly, OT political threads. Although I am interested in Porsche technology and engineering, I do not presently own a Porsche.

My car is a 2002 WRX - midnight blue, carbonfiber hood, silver Enkei's, giant front-mount intercooler (many other non-cosmetic engine and suspension mods).

Say hello sometime if you see me.

"Hey Carlos what's up, buddy?

How long will you make it over here until somebody hits the ban button on you?

Just don't go around telling the mods on these boards how to raise kids and we won't tell anybody your wife brought home the bacon to took you to the cleaners during the divorce."

How's it goin' pinkie? Glad to see you had enough time to do some research as lame as it appears to be. Hopefully you will eventually get enough of a life to where you have better ways to spend your time than reading boring ass court documents on someone you never met. By the way, I didn't tell anybody how to raise their kids. All I said was that if the moderator you refer to didn't give up on his crusade of personal attacks & threats that I would hurt his feelings. I apparently succeded.

Are you kidding?

That board has not changed one bit since non paying members have been excluded. I am a member there and still see the same BS. The damn threads still sound juvenile and certain moderators talerate some, while squelching others.

As far as how low this board will sink, it can't get any lower than the depths already acheived by Rennlist-OT......

George 911-V8 07-23-2004 07:47 AM

work on your cars a little more instead of sitting in front of the computer and bickering on the OT forum you'd get a lot more out of both rennlist and this forum.

Zamirz maybe you should worry more why girls don't like you instead of bashing posters atleast thats your story on rennlist. What about fixing your own car nobody cares about your lack of personal life without a women thats sounds personal give howard stern a call he can give you some advice

As the 'official' Hey, Wait for Me Racing "Team Graphic Interpolator / Chartologist" I think your view of HWFM racing is a bit off.

HWFM Racing is A Team devoted to the fine art of driving fast cars slowly. Some of the team are involved in club racing, and many are involved with DE's. It's just a 'tongue in cheek' group that has fun with their cars. BTW: Many of them drive Wasser-pumper 944's.

Some of their team slogans:
"If you spin often enough, sooner or later, you'll hit an apex."

"Slow in, slow out, and slow down the straight."

"What's the hurry?"

"Working our way up to 'slow'"

"Drive it like your grandmother stole it."

"Why procrastinate? Apex early!"

They don't take themselves too seriously. Neither should you.

Now I'd like to see is a showdown: SCWDP vs. HWFMR. :)

-Z.

The official HWFMR website.

ronin 07-23-2004 09:37 AM

I guess to truly understand this ongoing debate, one must know the "real" definition of racer. anyone have a go here?

Actually Carlos, you were banned anyway a while ago. There is still an overwhelming number of conservatives over there......but even they didn't want you. :D

Mule 07-23-2004 12:45 PM

Speaking for "I guess)

Good to know you are now the spokesperson for conservatives. But I think that same statement applies to you JE, before you get on your high "50 cent Kmart ride'em horsey." Yeah I was banned. I guess b***ch slapping a "super moderater" will not be tolerated regardless of the "super moderater's" behavior. His threats to investigate my background & post any dirt he could find were outside reasonable behavior IMHO. But apparently pinkie was up to the same crap. Either that or they were sharing the information.

Give me enough credit to know that smacking Adrian down like I did would be my last post. John d's little tirade & threats came as no surprise. I was tired of playing when I made my post. Just for the record I NEVER asked john d to re-instate or un-ban or do anything else on my behalf. His statement was in error.

PS Hey pinkie do you play Sherlock Holmes & investigate everyone on the boards or just the ones who make you look bad?
