I wish more of the people who moved to California would "come to their senses" about this place and leave.

And for those that don't live here...yes, we're all freaky queer-loving, god-hating dog-kickers. YMMV.

btw, I always love when people watch tv coverage of a trial, then get incredulous at the verdict. Especially when the cameras aren't allowed in trial and you get "reenactments". I mean, those are so truthful and accurate (just like the TV news)...

YEP! In-*******-credible!

My theory; The jury, being SoCal'ers are more interested in their OWN personal "story' than societies.

That is, in SoCal, status is 'who you know' . ..ie, "My cousin was Linsey Lohans neighbor once" trumps "My dog ate turds buried by Scott Petersons cat." Both are held in high regard there, of course but clearly, one is much better.

So, there was a room full SoCal nobodies, who got to spend a bunch of time in the same room as MJ/Robert Blake/OJ ...

Do you really think that they want their "story" to be "yeah, I kinda know a convict" (?)

. . .and that is why these guys are found not guilyt.

Now on to the conspiracy theories.....does anyone think that the jurors are "persuaded" to make the correct verdict......or else? Think there are payoffs involved? It all just stinks too much.

i actually served as a juror for a case just like this. the defense admitted to her client sleeping with the victom, but said it was all very innocent. she brought up, that in some cultures adults do share beds with kids. asian ones come to mind.

My theory; The jury, being SoCal'ers are more interested in their OWN personal "story' than societies.

Here's how it works; The juror gains self esteem by imagining a personal relationship with the celebrity defendant. When the juror aquits a guilty celebrity, the juror feels a sense of intimacy with the defendant. The more aggregious the crime and the more clearly guilty the defendant, the greater the sense of intimacy with the defendant.

Jury selection expert always pick jurors with low self esteem for celebrity trials. They rarely convict.

I'll bet every OJ juror had dreams of hanging out with Simpson after the trial, throwing back a few cold ones and grilling up some steaks.

I personally thought they would get MJ this time....after this I don't know if a CA jury would convict MJ if he sat in the court room masterbaiting to pictures of little boyz....

The jurors would offer to lick his genitalia (whatever that has become)

excellent post, Moses. Though I do think that there is a distinct SoCal element happening there, too. I think that if the trial had happened in say Texas, or even Oregon, MJ would have been done. (even with low self esteem jurors)

Here are the counts

Count one: Conspiracy involving child abduction, false imprisonment and extortion, including 28 specific acts between Feb. 1 and March 31, 2003. Verdict: Not guilty.

_Counts two through five: Lewd act upon a child under the age of 14, between Feb. 20 and March 12, 2003. Verdicts: Not guilty.

_Count six: Attempt to get a child under age 14 to commit a lewd act upon Jackson between Feb. 20 and March 12, 2003. Verdict: Not guilty.

_Counts seven through 10: Administering an intoxicating agent — alcohol — to assist in the commission of child molestation. Verdicts: Not guilty.

Mosty of the comments are aimed at some sort of illegal homosexual behavior that MJ allegedly did. Does anyone think the first count should even have been tried? The prosecution did not prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt for lewd acts, counts 2-6, so naturally counts 7-10 did not apply.

Skip, I have really no idea exactly what his antics were. Serving alcohol in a soda is wrong and he should be treated like anyone else on that, I think it is a fine. As for the rest, the responsibility lies on the DA to prove it and he didn't. I think his acts are questionable at the least, and any parent who leaves his kid unsupervised with him is foolish.

Aside, to me the population is like a 3d bell curve. He is out there on the fringe and anyone who sends his kids there unsupervised is on the fringe also.

So if California split, into two states, you would put Santa Maria in NorCal?

. . . or are yoou saying it's not SoCal (LA) culture in Santa Maria?

That has to do with celebrity worship in California. Try to convict a University of Texas football star in the lone star state. Same problem.

At the HT School you learn that the proper way to check if your handgun is loaded is to put the barrel in your mouth and pull the trigger.
