It's got a MadMax quality, don't you think? I see it as motocross on the street, a hooligan soul that makes a Ducati Monster look like a Goldwing

How come you don't have any snow on the ground? Need some?
Cool bike, BTW.

mmm, Husky. I've heard varying stories on maintenance issues though. You have any data on that? Not sure I'd want to use it on a daily basis around here, but it looks like a nice lane splitter.

For some strange reason I've had a hankering for a KTM Adventure. Even though I hate the way it looks.
There's something wrong with that, isn't there?

Have you considered the SMR510? Street legal for '06 with an MSRP of $7,699 and a box with some "race kit" stuff. It's more the real-deal Supermoto-wise. A couple of friends of mine are getting them any day now when they arrive. One of them has researched the reliability issue and says they're two-thumbs up.

I hope they quit putting Bing carburators on those things!
Looks like fun Len. Is Honda building off the shelf "supermoto" bikes? I wonder what the laws are regarding converting a new fangled four stroke MX bike into a street legal bike? I would not mind owning a semi-street legal CRF450. With a simple wheel change, one could have the best of both worlds with no compromise on the dirt side!

I considered going that route as well, but I have spoken to many regarding maintenance and they say "too much". When I raced MX I did a full P/M schedule on my bikes after every race, I would hate to do that every other day. Not to mention the top-ends I would go through cruising at highish revs for extended periods. The SMR510 is interesting, but I have been told that if 50% or more of your riding is street vs track,"forget it". It's really a race bike w/lights and needs lots of tending to. I will ask some more though, thanks. Also, yes Honda will be doing a street-moto soon too, but it's just an XR400 w/moto gear. Suzuki already has one, bt it's also a house cat vs a jungle cat if you know what I mean.

I admittingly do not have much hands on knowledge of the new high revving 4 strokes (other than I hate how they sound in a stadium and some are a b!tch to hot start). I also went thru multiple sets of rings and pistons per season (for performance reasons basically) when I raced MX. I would hope the full race 4 strokes do not require as many tear downs, because obviously it is not as easy to freshen up the top end on one of these.
My guess is that these engines will last longer than a 2 stroke, but not as long as the average street bike engine due to higher power output per cc. That said, on the street a good percentage of the time the engine will be cruising along at a relatively low rpm whereas on a race track you and I know that most of the time the throttle is pinned WFO while using the clutch to tactifully feed in power (even the new 4 strokes with more low end still get run pretty much WFO most of the time).

Looks like a fun bike to me.
I had a Honda 600cc dual sport bike about 4 years ago. It was great you could take it to work and on your way home if you saw a cornfeild that looked fun you could just go for it. |

True Tim, but this particular Husky is not a freak-show race bike. it's built more for reliabilty than peak HP. I also hate the way thumpers sound at a Supercross, kinda kills the nostalgia
Another consideration for me is E-start. In my last MX race I shattered my right foot and blew out my right knee, so kicking (though possible) ain't as much fun as it use to be. A YZ250 on the street is VERY tempting though.

Nothing like the sound of 40 2-strokes roaring to the first turn, then quiet, then WFO again. I am feeling all warm and fuzzy now! I can almost smell the Klotz oil! Worst case back in the day was a new crank maybe. Now we are talking complex head, cams, timing chains etc etc.
I do not even want to know what a smashed titanium exhaust system costs! BTW, if anyone is interested I have my daughters 1999 CR 80 and 2000 KX 80 for sale for $1000 each.

I don't get it. The frame certainly looks dual purpose, but those tires are going nowhere but on the street.

Len,
Looks SWEET!!! You'll have a blast on that thing. I've seen pics of a Duc prototype supermoto... looks beautiful. I have a few friends who've given up roadracing because they're hooked on supermotard. Must be something to it!

The problem is that Steve has me wavering back to the SMR510R, which is a hell of a bike.
