He shouldn't drive with such anger...and type...at the same time.

I didn't mind paying gas taxes until Jerry Brown came along. That worthless POS started taking them for the general fund.

No way.
The European Union uses less than one-half the oil per capita as the US does. So, yes, they are far less dependent on oil.

If you wanted to really analyze this (if you ever get out of rant mode) you might ask if that's because the EU includes many less-developed countries (like Estonia, Latvia, Hungary, etc).

So look at The UK, Germany, and France, all highly-developed industrialized countries. Each of these countries' oil consumption per captia is 42% to 50% that of the US.

Yes but their countries are less than the size of many states in the US. Consequently they do not have to travel as far. They also did not benefit, ie they travel less because of the price, but is that REALLY a benefit or just a case of the royals coming down on the peasants? In more clear and uncertain terms, the people are being screwed big time. Taxes out the ying yang and NO benefit. SUCKERS.

Another point. Even the best euro highway is only second best to the average 3 rate highway in the US.

So when were you last in Europe, where and how much did you travel on their highways?

In my limited experience (mostly US mid-west, MN and PA highways) US highways vary from good to crap. Even highways in Czech Republic are better than those.

Snow - they do just the way they do it in Japan. With much smaller cars. (On average.) Smaller cars are lighter cars and use much less fuel. Nothing complicated here, pure Newtonian physics. The amount of fuel we burn up on interstate travel and intrastate travel is nothing compared to the daily grind of commuting and running around town in Crown Vics, not-so-mini-mini vans, SUVs and pick-ups.

As for US highways - you must be south of the Mason-Dixon line. Up here they aint so good. I have driven the "M" roads in Britain and heard about the Autobahn and Autostradas. Much better (per mile) than our interstate system.
