You're confused. The wrongdoing had to do with the false WMD claims and the Plame case, not closing the ObL office.

One of the neocons brought up the NY Times story on tracking terrorist financing, and compared it Rove leaking Plame's identity, to divert attention away from the topic of this thread -- the closing of the CIA ObL office.

So you are saying that Pat's "newspaper exposing government wrongdoing" was not talking about the closing of the task force?

Read his quote again, here I though that the "an official government leak to smear a credible source of other government wrongdoing" was the Plame thing......

"newspaper exposing government wrongdoing" = NY TImes story on Bush snooping into millions of people's bank records with no warrants and no oversight of any kind.

"an official government leak to smear a credible source of other government wrongdoing" = Karl and Scooter and the VP going after Valerie Plame because her husband told the truth about what he didn't find in Africa.

If Hitler had holed up in the mountains of Bavaria, would the allies have discontinued the search for him?

Would the media and the Democrats be aiding and abetting Hitler and attacking the military and the President?

If they couldn't find him after more than five years? If they disbanded the office charged with finding him? I sure hope "the media and the democrats" would do their best to hold someone accountable.

You mean the SWIFT thing?

This is the topic of this thread. True, tech did throw in the SWIFT thing AFTER the post I quoted. I guess ol' Pat is a fortune teller and was not actually talking about the closing of the CIA office? I think your = are not equal....

The press still has a responsibility to be judicious about what they print, especially in times of war. This program was not illegal and was working very well. There was no scandal involved, no coverup to expose. The NYT was just jumping on the bandwagon to try and pin another one on Bush and this one backfired. I think the editor, owner and writer of the story should be prosecuted along with the leakers.
The NYT's responsibility is to the public and its subscribers, not the Federal government, the administration or the fact that we are at war.

False representation/poor reporting, or whatever, will be up to the editorial staff of the NYT to deal with, not the govt.

Precedence, time and again, has been set about what is reported during wars - as far back as WWI I believe. Some stories come out in favor of troop actions, some not.

NYT has a good case on their hands, and popularity in their corner in lieu of an unpopular war. If I were the U.S. Govt, I wouldn't mess with them.

After all, the NYT is one of Cheney's favorite papers.

Only if Hitler's and Truman's families had had close ties.

You mean like receiving monies from the Bin Laden family, like Jimmah Carter has?...Do you have any links proving financial links between the Bushs and Hitler and the Bin Ladens?

I've heard of this Bush-Hitler connection too; though I can't remember where. Something about Prescott Bush...

Here's one link:

The rests, like this:

http://ecosyn.us/Bush-Hitler/

...seems dubious at best.

So Prescott Bush's company did business with a business that did business with Hitler's Germany?...Doesn't get much more clear-cut than that.

No argument from me. Henry Ford and Charles Limbaugh were much more intertwined with the Nazis.

I am more impressed with who the American Democrats were in bed with at the time, good ole Uncle Joe...Hitler didn't come close to Stalin's human atrocity achievements; this didn't stop FDR and the ACLU from singing kumbaya with the scumbag communist.

I would say you are very wrong on those points. The people who work at the NYT have a responsibility as citizens of the United Staes, the same as the rest of us do. That responsibility is that we will not undermine our country and put our own people in harm's way. The NYT has done exactly that in disclosing the specifics of this program.

Also, the staff of the NYT are not above the law. If a federal prosecutor decides that the NYT has violated the law of this land they can and should be prosecuted for it, the same as anyone else would be prosecuted.
