At the risk of being flamed I will offer information on the topic. For over 90% of heart burn sufferers the symptoms can be totally eliminated by eliminating foods and drink that quickly turn to sugar when consumed. That is eliminating processed foods. Unfortunately, in the U.S., those foods and drinks have become increasingly the staple of the diet of most people over the last 5 decades. Has anyone noticed that the tv comercials advertise pizza,hot pockets, chips, etc and then the next comercial advertises the pills that cure the symptoms caused by them? The side benifit of decrease processed foods is weight loss and increased health. Good luck with it

Beer does the same to me. I use Prilosec OTC to combat it, giving up beer just isn't in the cards!

Have you been drinking yellow beer? That may be the problem.
Beer should look something like this;

BTW although you may want to avoid medication, you really should see a GI doc. If you've had heartburn for years and haven't had a scope, you probably should just to see if there is a mechanical reason you're having heartburn or if precancerous changes have occurred. PS: Prilosec OTC is half dose prescription Prilosec. Nexium in prescription strength is about the same acid reduction as prescription strength Prilosec.

I had acid reflux for years, went on a gluten free diet and it mostly went away. Then had an endoscopy done and found I have a minor hiatal hernia, now I make sure I don't eat for 2 hours before bed.
No more heartburn. As long as I sleep on my left side.

I've found limiting myself to 2 beers max helps alot. .
![]() Also drinking on top of a full stomach was really aggravating things. I got to a point where having a few margaritas on top of mexican food would just kill me.

If beer caused heartburn I would be a victim of spontaneous human combustion. Yer drinkin the wrong beer.
I am allergic to peanuts tho, a local pub serves free peanuts and after i sit at the bar eating them for a few hours i get kinda light-headed and feel like crap the next morning. Gotta be the peanuts. Didja know that beer contains female hormones? A german scientist did a study, if you drink alot of beer you talk waaay too much, you get emotional, and you can't drive worth a darn I crack me up, even tho I didn't come up with that. How much excersise you gettin? I usta have heartburn once in a while, but I've been pedalling the bike about 5 miles every day and haven't had heartburn since. Plus I lost 14 pounds in 10 weeks. Chicks still don't dig me tho...... Last edited by sammyg2; 07-13-2006 at 07:31 PM.. |
