When did actors have any clue about anything other than remembering a few things to say? They are jesters. They exist to entertain and nothing more.

BTW Moses, how do we know that's the real report? Could easily be a plant by the JDF.;)

Some of the most anti Semitic folks are European christians (note this is not the same as "European christians are the most anti semitic folk") so not completely a surprise.

Apology struck me as geniune as well. Spoken well before he was "caught" and admitting to whatever words would be put in his mouth without getting sued by anyone or threatened by the Sheriff's office. Ended saying "I was bad".

Mel's mugshot...

Looks like he's still feeling that passion of the gin & tonic...

I heard last night that he blew a .12. Now that's impaired, but not really drunk. Heck, a .12 BAC for me would be like 4-5 beers for me.

To be falling down, saying stupid things you'll regret for a long time drunk, I think you should be able to come up with something closer to .2 than .1

All the more reason to think this guy is one bigoted, nasty human being.

In vino veritas.

I guess the religion was overthrown by the alcohol! I was also surprised by his demeanor with the claims of a religious lifestyle.

Roman Polanski is convicted of drugging and raping a minor and wins academy awards.
Woody Allen is an incestious pedophile and people rave over his "genius".

What Mel did really pales in comparison and he remains my favorite actor/filmaker.

cantdrv55 08-01-2006 04:05 PM

Again, who here on Pelican isn't bigoted?

Roman Polanski had sex with a cocaine dealer who had been passing herself off as 19. She had sex with and sold coke to his entire group of pals as well, including Jack Nicholson. Polanski's crime wasn't exactly heinous.

What Woody Allen did was pretty disgusting and I haven't paid to see one of his movies since.

Gibson is a bigoted idiot son of a bigoted idiot. His rantings are mainly significant if you thought he was some kind of positive example of Christianity. I suspect many people who still respect him probably share his views.

This incident has certainly caused a lot of people to revisit what some saw as anti-semitism in his "Passion."

Perhaps his brain is a bit pickled.

He has a church on his property. Seems to me you can see the big cross from the park at Cross Creek and Pacific Coast Highway.

Or maybe I too was drunk, and imagined the whole thing just like the strange imaginings Mel is going through.

I find many people with 'claims of a religious lifestyle' are the scum of the earth. Not to be confused with people who actually live a religious lifestyle without making pronouncements about it.

Its the nature of Man. When you can't control your insides, you'll go to any length to control your outsides. The dictators and Elmer Gantry's of the world just take it a little bit further than the rest of us.

If this movie thing doesn't work for Mel, Osama needs a number 2 man.

As background I am not a Gibson fan. After seeing "payback" seriously wanted to demonstrate how stupid that story line was on Mr Gibson personally. But...

Why is it that when one who professes faith screws up, it is looked upon as a failure of religion? The whole point of MG's faith is that, as a human he is going to screw up. It's expected, it's his nature. His belief is that God looks beyond his screw ups and still cares about him.

Is Gibson anti-semitic at heart? Maybe. Does he know it's wrong - perhaps. Does he believe that alcohol is bad for him? Apparently.

dd74 08-01-2006 09:24 PM

It's okay to screw up. You just have to keep your mouth shut while screwing up.

Bobboloo 08-01-2006 10:23 PM

Mel is pretty good at making living in the fantasy world. It's the real world that he seems a bit challenged. It seems like a common theme with actors.

Besides, I think we should give him a break. It's not his fault that he was born with a tiny weener.
