Smile What kind of breed?

I am in the process of buying a puppy and I am wondering what kind of dog you think is best?

Any suggestions, horror stories, or good tales to tell?

More info. Do you have kids, do you spend a lot of time outdoors or indoors? What are your hobbies that could relate to your dog.

Most important item is family.

+1. Go to the pound and get one. Mixed breeds are smarter and have less health problems then pure breed dogs.

No Kids!! Going to be married in 2 years!! I like life to be as easy as possible. Not a huge outdoorsman but...maybe that'll change!

Nothing wrong with a pound puppy.
On the otherside.
Do you have small childern, if so a mixed breed might and a hostility trait, of course certain breed dogs have the same if not worse, in certain breeds.
Some dogs have a stronger oder than others are you allergic to certain scents?
Outside or Inside dog?
How much room do you have.
Do you like to excersise, certain dogs have to be run for a hour plus every day rain or shine.

I agree. +1000
I have a mutt from the pound, no in-bred hip problems, no high strung nervousness, just a loveable dog and only wants to please and get and give affection and might not be around if I had bought a dog somewhere else.
My last 3 dogs have been pound mutts, all very good family pets.

Plus if by chance you get a dog from the pound that doesn't work out (like if he barks all night or something), you can usually take it back and get another one.

PS I just have to say, please do not get a pit bull. Even if you happen to be one of those tattoo'd wannabe bad boys who have to try and prove to the world you are bad because you have a bad dog, don't do it.
There are way too many good natured lovable dogs out there that won't bite your face off when you don't expect it.

Second PS:
If you have a pit bull and think it's a good dog, remember that lots of other owners thought their pit bulls were good dogs too, until they mauled a neighbor kid or ripped someone's face off.

Third PS: If any of you have tattoos all over your body and like the bad boy look, no offence. Just continue being an Oakland raiders fan. (that's an insult around these parts).

Bandy and Clementine were both rescue dogs. Both of them afraid of and beaten down by the world have turned into great and fun loving companions.

Rescue dogs can be great dogs. I have adopted 3 Old English Sheepdogs 2-3 years old and have been very happy with all of them.

Come on man.

How are we supposed to make any kind of reccomendation when you provide no information at all.

Do you live in a house or apartment.
Do you have a large yard? Small yard? No yard?
Kids?
Will the dog live inside or outside?
How much time will the dog spend alone each day?
How much time/energy will you be able to provide to exercise the dog?
Are you looking for a dog to be a companion/guard the house/fetch dead birds/tree racoons/keep the squirrels out of the yard?

Have you ever had a puppy? You know they are only cute and little for a few months, right? They are also a lot of work for about the first year, up to 3 or 4 years depending on breed.

What is your goal?

Tom

honestly, i have been "soured" of pound pups. to be fair, i still have a mini schnauzer that i also adopted from the SPCA, but she was a pure bred, lap dog that saw pro dog training from the PO. the problem is the PO died of cancer, and her hubby hated the beast. so off she went to the SPCA. she has health issues big time, but i was smitten, and elected to take her on. THE BEST DOG EVER! my other charity case, has left me shaken. forced me to make the toughest decision ever, and i dont want to be there again.

basically, i am gonna search the obituaries for future pets. JK!

I didn't ask for advice based on my living situation or my family or how often I work!! I simply asked what kind of breeds you find lovable and decent. I have had a million puppies and they have all been pure-bred labs.

oh, puppies are DEMON-SPAWN all wrapped up in a cute little package. the chewing, whining, crapping, peeing....no thanks.

if i had to choose a breed, i would get another mini schnaz....no shedding, smallish, attitude...again no shedding. second choice? maybe a corgi. love those corgis! i could so be the creepy guy on the block with alot of dogs. thank god i have an internal "stop" button.
