I would show up....but I'm in Ohio. AND I would put up $100 but it would be on Execmalibu. AND all you guys saying his claims are false ARE a bunch of wussies.
Heck, I would put up $100 against EM just to make it all happen but he is refusing that action (which he probably should). I am really disappointed in all the keyboard commandos. Maybe they don't really even own P-cars. Maybe they are are all 11-year olds that can't take a day off of Middle School let alone scare up $100. Can I still pay for the dyno run? $85?

I must say I am disappointed as well. I do think there are some pretty balsy claims hard to believe mostly because EX seems to have some interesting ways of approaching things to say the least. I am in wisconsin and won't make it to CA to see the Big circus tent go up for the ballon show but Whatever. I hope someone goes. EX I hope all goes well for you and if nothing else maybe we learned what NOT to right in an add if we want to be taken seriously

ive been watching and reading til now. once again the spin has been put on. NO turbo to race, and blow its doors off. and NO 165mph will be seen by any of us. and it will still need to be proven the 8500 rpm 1-3rd shifts. remains to be seen if even verified.

I have to say I am a little disappointed that there will be no 8500 rpm runs, and no blowing the doors off any turbos. I can live without seeing Malibu get hurt trying to make 165 with the top off. To be honest ... is this really playing out much differently then anyone expected? The internet is a great place... people flex their muscles and other’s bash that flexing and in the end what’s going to happen? We may see some shots at watered down claims to which Malibu will scream I told you so and thump his chest. Then the rest of us will still balk because they’re no where near the claims in the original add.
I am sure anyone can find a tach that will show 9000 RPM if you like, just as Malibu absolutely could have blown the doors off a turbo in that run somewhere. No one is going to assemble a selection of turbos and make various runs vs, Malibu’s car and Malibu is not claiming he can consistently make 8500 rpm in the first 3 gears on a dyno. No one is exactly right and no one is exactly wrong either.

EM stated in the ad that it pulled to " over 8500". Which is a claim. He did NOT say it pulled to 8500 on an old possibly inaccurate tach. So, thats where a dyno comes in. Controlled environment, and documentable RPM traces. Easy to read and publsh. it either goes to 8,500, or it doesn't. That's pretty simple. Anything else is just not conclusive. He also claimed it was the "correct" motor for an S. Well, thats simple to. He disn't say it was a "Correct motor except for the lightended valvetrain, and pistons and compression and cams"...he succinctly stated it was "the correct motor". Simple, right? So, i agree that verification that his car does 165MPH...with the top OUT...is pretty much impossible. And the race the turbo thing is completely ludicrous, as lanch technique, driver skill and the proper running condition of the cars is, at this point, impossible to verify. So, what we're left with is the simple claim of a "correct S" engine pulling over 8500 RPMs repeatedly. If it doesn't pull a verified 8500, then the claim is BS. IF it DOES, we are impressed, but will be left with the most likely conclusion that it is not a "correct S" engine. Again, the result will be that the original claim is BS.

Jake nailed it. This whole flap began by questioning the accuracy of statements made in the ebay ad. I still question the accuracy of those statements...to the point that I call BS! Like I said, I'll help pay to the tune of $25. It's not worth the trip to California for me...
Besides, msterling doesn't think I have a Porsche? Msterling? I'll bet you that I do...you bring $100 to my doorstep...I'll then show you both the car and the title. Oh, I'd better modify that a bit. I only own 1/2 of the car. Cindy's name is on the title too.

Incidentally, I have a 10,000 RPM tach. I'll pull it and install it in EM's car for a $100. Incidentally, there are always a couple turbo 911s out there. Just so everyone knows.

well if turbos are known to be lurking there, im sure it will soon be time for a FEEDING FRENZY!
i kinda have this visual of a very complacent fat seal, basking in the surf of the farallon islands, enjoying the frolicking female seals.....................WHEN WHAM! a GIANT GREAT WHITE TURBO SHARK RIPS A 2.7 to SHREDS!(body parts flying everywhere) background muzak jaws playing! the original untouched ad was and is and always will remain a classic. no matter how its been spun in circles, changed, waffled on, back pedaled, denied, etc. Last edited by charleskieffner; 11-14-2006 at 01:07 PM.. |

If the car DOES pull to 8500 in 3rd, then the critics will doubt (and reasonably so, of course) the accuracy of an old and unknown tachometer. If the car DEOSN'T pull to 8500, well then the parts on the track, and the cleanup will be proof enough I guess. To me, a neultral party/dyno shop is the ONLY legitimate way to verify the 8500 claim. I'd be statisfied with a dyno trace in 3rd gear showing revs and time.

Jake I agree, the track test will just be met with excuses from all sides no matter what the outcome.
We been down this road. When the former President says he did not have sexual relations with that woman but he did get a ___ job is he correct when he says he didnt have sexual relations? When malibu says its the correct engine whats degree of correct? It is a Porsche motor is that correct enough? Technically the correct motor for that car is a Porsche motor.

What is interesting to me is that the car did not sell and in fact the reserve was not met so the write-up really did not accomplish anything other than 20+ pages of excitement on PPOT.
Hope everyone can sleep tonight with the nervous anticipation of tomorrow. |

Prediction:
-It's a big bust. EM either shows and says nobody bothered to pony up and verify, or he bails as he doesn't like those who have offered, and says the right guys didn't confirm, so he's not going to waste his time.. we'll never know. Well, actually I do know, i just don't know which option (can't do it, or it's not the right motor) to believe. Not that I'll lose any sleep over it, LOL.

Guys,
It's against my better judgment that with so few posts to my name I've ventured into Off Topic ![]() That being said, correct me if I'm wrong but couldn't a multimeter with RPM function verify the accuracy of the tach? And couldn't a portable GPS verify the accuracy of the speedometer? Shouldn't be too hard to round up either.
