If you want to try it without a whole bunch of money or time invested in equipment. Cabela's has a number of kits covering all types of rods. Pretty much everything is included. I've never built one myself but methinks I should try sometime.

Mike- Are those walleye?

Bass Pro Shops and cabelas both have rod buidling catalogs - can;t tell you how many guides I have replaced over the years.

bugs!

The commercial fisherman devastated the stock
Typical BS from uniformed sporties. How about destroyed habitat such as dams on rivers, water flows diverted for farms in arid lands, logging destruction of streams causing silting. Sewage, industrial chemicals, and agricultural runoff. What about exploding populations of marine mammals? Parasitic sea lice from fish farms (aquaculture)? Everyting is not as though it appears at first glance or through the eyes of those who have agendas.

Me and my son. His first time fishing....

We used the same fishing pole I used as a kid. I had it all this time and we took it apart, lubed it all up, and put on new line. That little fish was a big fighter for him!

That is completely awesome!...

I still have my old rods/reels from when I was young, and my son (he's 7) is catching fish with them as well. His first time (when he was 4) he caught a 2.5 lb. rainbow (amongst others), and I loosened the drag so the fish could strip line (and my son wouldn't break him off) and he was reeling as fast as he could (nothing was happening on his end) while the fish was going the other direction and peeling line from the reel. I gradually tightened the drag (my son just kept reeling the whole time non-stop like a robot) and after 10 minutes the poor rainbow came in the last 20 yards on its side, completely spent! I'm glad we kept that one, as it would have taken some time to properly revive him for release...
