No one ever said that? Not true. I have a training video from a well known retail chain that I used to work for, managing one of their stores. In the training video they state, and this is a direct quote, "Racial discrimination occurs when white people......."

That's very true. Lot's of people are racist. Ask a Greek about Turks or a White Russian about Chechyens for example. Or take the Japanese: try to marry a Japanese girl and you'll find out what racism really is. Or ask my Chinese friend whose daughter wants to marry a black man.

Or scratch the surface of a Swiss and find out how racially tolerant they are. Or a Jew. Or just about anyone else for that matter.

This kind of tribal racism is very, very widespread - and was the norm before globalization became a factor. It is really only in immigrant nations like the US, Canada and Australia that racial tolerance has been a social priority for any length of time. In nations like ours we simply have to get along with everone. We cannot discriminate. At least we cannot be seen to discriminate. But that doesn't mean we cannot hate every other tribe just as much as we like.

I think the bottom line is that this kind of tribal racism is everywhere. We aren't going to change that anytime soon. It's the institutional racism that's really the problem. As someone once said to me in Savannah "Just because I hate blacks, doesn't mean I think we should discriminate against them."

Chinese hate Japanese because of WWII, just as Koreans hate them because of the centuries of subjugation. (Funny thing is, if you're not in SF/LA/NY and you eat Japanese it's 50% that the owner will be Korean.) And Japanese hate everyone else too.

All of this aside, in this country the dominating race/sex is white male. I'm happy to compete with them on a one on one basis, problem is the oldboy network remains and is hard to break into. I had parents who bootstrapped us, so I can only imagine how tough it is if you really come from the ghetto. I can see both sides of the argument. It's still easier to get ahead here than in any other white dominated country.

Bingo! Black tribes in Africa were the ones selling their black brothers to the world for slaves, yet you never see this mentioned when people talk about slavery in America. Do I feel bad about what happened? Of course - about as bad as knowing six million jews were murdered in Germany in the late 30's and early 40's. You don't see the jewish people using that as a crutch to get ahead in life, or to get preferential treatment for schools. Sadly, many black people hold white people in general accountable for slavery. According to that logic, if a black person kills a white person then we should put that black persons entire family on trial.

In college I had an english class that had four black guys in it. Three of them were american and they walked in with their pants hanging off their ass and bad attitude expressions on their faces. They sat in the back of the class. The other was from africa and sat in the front of the class, next to me in fact. No chip on his shoulder. He was very bright and extremely pleasant. We got along very well. My professor started lecturing and during the course of the lecture stated a published statistic that 70%(? I don't remember the number exactly) of inmates are black. The three guys at the back of the class were not there the next day and the teacher was called in for questinoing. Nothing happened there because he did absolutely nothing wrong.

I think black people need to heed the advice of Bill Cosby in his infamous "come to Jesus" speech. Get over it.

The only difference between racism in the US and everywhere else in the world (it DOES exist everywhere else) is that American like to feel guilty about and overanalyze everything.

And the Chinese don't just hate the Japanese because of WWII. They teach their newer generations to keep hating them because Japan to this day still whitewashes their wartime behavior toward China. They have apologized and paid reparations to all the other places they ravaged in WWII, but not to China. I can certainly understand their anger about the whole thing, having been to Nanjing, the museum there and knowing a lot folks from that city. And Japan has not done much to atone for their crimes against China. But who does the hate hurt in the end? Japanese people couldn't care less what Chinese think of them. They have a rich, vibrant democracy and built it in a land with almost no arable land and no reseources. While much of China is still living in the dark ages. It's sad and it will never change.

I understand that some of our Asian and Arab brothers and sisters have hatred inbred into their culture as a result of thousands of years of wars and oppression.

However isn't it interesting that they are all obviously of the same gene pool? Take the Jews and the Muslims, if you put a thousand of each in a room naked you wouldn't be able to tell them apart. Same with Japanese and Chinese, oh I know there is a stereotype "look" for each of those nationalities but if you meet enough of them you will find there are many that you can't identify their country of origin by just looking at them.

Then look at me sitting here at work with two other technicians who are intelligent, hard working, and I would consider my friends... and until I started writing this I didn't even think of the fact that one is a black woman and the other a native American.

If they had a college fund that only gave white students scholarships... You know they'd be racists. There are over 60 openly proclaimed Black Colleges in the US , yet if there were "White colleges" .. THAT would be a racist college.

In the Million Man March, men believed that they were marching for their race and rights. If white men marched for their race and rights (Sadly some do), they'd be racists.

It is O.K. to be proud to be black, brown, yellow and red, and not be afraid to announce it. But if someone announced their white pride ... they'd be racists.

I don't get it. Why is it that only whites can be racists?
