She's a kid. Ain't gonna listen to experience. Let her buy it and take her lumps (like we all did).
As for this thread...

Katie, Go with Matteo on Thur. or Fri.! He's the MAN here and listen to what he tells you. We ALL want you to have a good experience and for you to be happy and proud of your "new" P-car. These photos tell us all we need to know...can you say, "$4k purchase price and $25k in repairs"?
Get an $18K car and put $2-3k in it. It will be a lot more enjoyable for you and you can drive it now and have fun instead of visiting the repair shop during all your fee time. In my previously post I said to Go For It...in so many words. Now that I've seen the pictures...Oh NO!!!! Jerry

I suggest a Short term Bond fund - such as the one by Vanguard - rather than a CD.
_________________________ The car is not looking too great. There is still some hope for it - note that - again - people are drawing inferences. You can do better; you can get real data. Pull the headlights and tailight housing (the whole thing) out and look; the battery box, etc. as per above; and get the car on a lift and probe every inch (seriously - 1" grid) with an ice pick. If solid, then offer $9k & see what he says. Assume the motor is shot unless there is strong Evidence to the contrary...

Wow! eleven pages in four days. took me an hour to plow through it.
Ummm, Katie. The car sounded like junk until I saw the pictures. Then it looked like junk. Pretty sure it is junk. There's lot's better cars around to throw money away on. I too have thrown away countless thousands of mostly my own money, but also of other generous people's money, and these days of what should be my kids' money, on cars. Some of these were almost as junky as the one you're looking at, but not quite as junky. There's nothing wrong with spending every ounce of your earning potential on a cool car. Lot's of people do it. Cars make people happy. Forget all that live long and prosper mumbo jumbo that's just passed by. It doesn't mean *****. Do heed the mechanical advice though. The car is junk. Go spend your grandma's money on a better car. Simple advice. As far as gettin' it on with the present owner goes, not a bad idea. Date him for a while and drive the piss out of his car until it breaks (shouldn't take long) then dump him. Ah to be young again!

I have been one of the few supporters along the way...
but as stated above its time to walk away. that car is ROUGH. the previous paint job was done OVER the body seals... just nasty. that engine bay looks like it was regularly washed with sea water... i am all for hot rods, and a turboed long hood sounded cool...it turns out its not. some nice cars where linked though, especially the blueish sc.

There are lots of 911s out there. You have the upper hand with the funds available and all the good people here offering advice.
Saw this one today in Wilmington.

Lord, I don't even have time to rear this entire thread!
I run across interesting cars and / or ads and dream about barn finds every now and then. Usually it is very sobering once I go look at the vehicle. You should buy an SC and paint it "flieder". Done. George |

Not trying to be negative, but this statement here is making you sound, well, typical for your age... That is "nice talk" for immature. I think you need to take a minute, or maybe a year, and learn some more about finances. What would happen to your parents or grandmother if they cosigned for you on a loan (car, house, whatever?) and then something, God forbid, happened to you that made you, despite whatever degree you are getting, incapacitated and unable to work? It is not a nice burden to place on your family, no matter what their financial status may be. And, do not think that it can't happen to you. Quickly, I will tell you one of the reasons I decided to buy a 911 last year was precisely because "IT" happened to me. I have always been very healthy and in pretty good shape. However, I had a completely unforseen medical issue hit me last year that nearly killed me. It was not fun. I have 6 children and a wife to care for, and although I have been extremely blessed, it does not matter how much money you earn, if you cannot work. I decided to go ahead with one of life's dreams and buy the car. Another noteworthy lesson about not buying it yourself is this: I grew up in what most would consider a "well to do" family. My father could have helped me buy just about whatever car I wanted. He was a streetrodder and I thought I had it made when I was 14-15. Well, then he informed me that his philosphy and rule was that I had to pay for everything when it came to a vehicle. Here is what I learned very quickly from that experience: TIRES ARE VERY VERY EXPENSIVE and BURNOUTS EAT TIRES UP VERY FAST!!! Again, not trying to be a downer, but just some things to consider, not just in regards to p-cars, but about life in general. Take care and good luck!

Hey, maybe there's another side to this. The guy has his Porsche for sale. An 18 year old shows up, looks in the engine bay and asks where the Turbo is. Compliments the Aubergine color, which he probably knows isn't, and asks a few other inane questions while checking out his ring finger (lots of married guys don't wear rings) and (figuratively speaking) batting her eye lashes.
Question for board members. Would you let her take your car ANYWHERE? Yes, the car looks like junk, and he's probably pretty sure she's not a serious buyer. . .especially if she told him her grandma may buy it for her if she can talk her dad into it. "Hey, can I drive it now??

This thread needs a mercy killing. It has reached the inane. Though I am curious as to how tangerine911S got such a sweet ride at 20 years old.

I don't care how nice it is - if there's rust, run - don't walk away. Run. It won't be worth it. Trust me.
