Katie,
You sound like a smart young lady. Owning your own 911 is a huge step for you. Very cool. With your experience and intent to own a classic 911, you deserve a car in better condition. They are out there if you keep looking. Ask the Pelicans to help you locate a cleaner, better car. Don't become an owner (like so many) with ill-gotten cars they can't afford to repair and that have very little resale value. In my opinion (not worth that much) the car is a bastarized, rusty, probable money pit. Interior, body work and paint, dumping that so-called turbo and cleaning up the motor could easily cost you $20K. Don't let grandpa buy you a dog that bites...

I say get one when you can but for the money he is asking this one seems a bit run down.. and the Turbo isntall would scare me away.
But don't stop looking!! there is a 911 out there for you that is in better condish... trust me.. never buy the 1st one you look at unless it is a great car.. it took me 6 months to find my SC... and i had a love for everyone I looked at before i bouight mine..  EM

Thanks so much guys! This is precisely why I put pics up and gave you all the details I have about the car. You guys have much better trained eyes than I do and while I don't see anything wrong with the front of the car, you guys catch every flaw, and I really appreciate that!
I have a mind to go to the seller and tell him that his car isn't worth $12k, and if he goes, why not? I'd reply, well, 100 people have proven that right here, and hand him this thread printed out.. But seriously, I do appreciate your efforts, and I appreciate you taking time out of your busy lives to help a young girl along... So I've decided this morning that I would rather wait until I'm, say, 43 rather than 23, to get a car like this. Because then, I should have the time, money, and know-how to be able to restore it/fix it up properly. And then you can call me stupid, but if I bought it now, I would be immature, insane, and naiive. And by God, I don't want to have to live that down... So with that in mind, I want to try to at least keep tabs on the car (I like everything about it-esp. the front spoiler and yes, even the BBS wheels!) find out what happens to it, where it ends up (even if it's in a junkyard lol) and then 20 years from now, if it's still around then, I'll buy it, fix it up, and then it can be my long-awaited baby.

you are going from one extreme to the other. There are nice daily driver cars you can have a lot of fun with that are within your budget. 2-3 cars have already been offered as an example on this thread. Take your time, find the right car. You don't need to wait until you are 43. You cando it now... But if you do it... do it right. Use this board for help. Hell Shaun 84 targa has offered to check the 73 E. I think that is a great starting point. Check some of those cars in Atlanta... And Don't worry too much about buying a car unseen... |

Matteo, I think you misunderstood me. I wasn't saying that I'm waiting till I'm 43 to get a 911, I have every intention of getting one long before then! I'm saying that I'm waiting awhile to get that 911. It was an example, I wasn't going to wait till I was 43 to get any car, I just was throwing that number out there as it's 20 years in the future...

Hmm what about this one?

For the time being, I'd have to buy a local car as I wouldn't be able to drive it home and I wouldn't want to pay to have it transported here. And my dad is certainly not about to drive or fly up to get one. That'll have to wait till I can do it all myself... I appreciate the offers of the Atlanta cars and the 73 911E, but as stated above, maybe when I'm a bit more financially independent I'll be able to expand my search area...

You think you got it bad? Try being into cars all your life then when I was forty something I got a Porsche and had to put up with all the "mid life crisis" BS! I would LOVE to have a sportomatic just because they made so few of them... I think tech here on the BBS had one for sale that I was seriously looking at but I can only afford one money pit (my 944) Also of note some guy on the FS BBS had a very early 911 with a Buick V6 turbo that I was looking at (talk about weird) that started out as "runs fast and handles great, has no problems".... Except it overheats... And the front spoiler is smashed... etc. etc. Your car will come.

you are looking at porsches not pintos Right now you are a scammers dream. like anything you need to educate yourself. there is a good little book out there called the used 911 story by Peter Zimmerman. i,ve recently moved and still have lots of things in boxes ,if i come across the one i have I will send it to you for free or maybe some-one can tell you where to pick one up down there.it will give you a lot of information of what to look for . the car in that link has many issues as well. eg 4200rpm -22lbs oil pressure not good. there are so many clues in his what seems to be well written ad but you can't pick up on them ,thats why i say get yourself educated , otherwise you are setting yourself up for a very expensive nightmare. |
