Well, I did my part so far- I knocked on the door. No answer. I recollect that she did say:

"drop by anytime, I don't housekeep, so I prefer my guests to be unannounced..."

so I'll keep trying.

Oh, I've see this movie!!

Seriously, Series 1 & 2 E-types are among my top 5 favorite cars. Had a fantastic drive in a one-owner, never restored '67 roadster with triple-carbed 4.2 a few years ago. Yoooooweeeee!

Over the top E-type porn:

They update just about every week, you can watch as a restoration continues over months & sometimes years.

Actually the V-12 was about 5 liter as I recall, made great noises, would go 70 mph in 1st. E type and XKE are the same. Car with that low mileage would be astronomical price

Subscribed. Ask her what she would take for it first, do not throw out an offer first. Trust me on this. These cars are worth strong 5 figures if in really nice shape. Concours cars are north of $100k. It will all depend on condition and how much the car has been driven/cared for.

We have a Series II E-type with about 36,000 miles in my family and they are a ball to drive. The car is a roadster in BRG with tan int. Now.....personally, I prefer the E-type Coupe - that is sexy. Not the ugly 2+2, but the sleek coupe. OK, need to stop drooling on my keyboard...

Keep us updated and post pics if possible.

There's a secret but simple solution to making Lucas reliable. I ain't tellin', but I bet LornnFB (or whatever his name is) can tell you and why it works. I'll leave a hint: the battery

Don't let the smoke out! None of the electrics work right once you're let the smoke leak out.

You can occasionally find refills on ebay though:

Close! I ditched the Lucas alternator way back in 1977 on my Jag and its worked much better ever since. Found a Chrysler alternator that bolted right up and the electrical maladies stopped right away.

Just do not ask me about why they use brown ground wires everywhere...

Joe

PS why does a Jag leak oil? Its a cat and its marking its area with the scent. (Thank God mine does not leak... yet)

So now this gets fun! There is a 5000 mile '67 XKE! - But I seriously doubt it’ll be for sale anytime soon.

I was walking by the subject house last evening. Guy (looking/dressed like a “street person”) is fetching garbage cans back to the garage. I approached him and introduced myself as the “guy down the street with the silver Porsche” (seeing as his wife as described me as such, I figure it’s the best introduction).

He says that he’s seen my car and compliments me on it. I tell him that I hear that he has an interesting car himself (but I’m careful not to mention his wife – better to be safe, I figure).

Chit leads to chat, he tells me that yes, he does have a ’67 E-type (XKE) convertible that he bought new, but it’s under cover and beneath some boxes and other stuff in the back of his garage and he can’t show it to me at the moment. We talk for a while about life, cars and his medical career and start to close with his promise to ring my door bell when/if he brings the Jag out of strorage this summer. Without directly asking the question, it becomes pretty clear to me that this car is not on the market. But needing closure, I asked him if he’d ever think about parting with the car. The answer is a resounding “NO!”

Nice guy, nice chat, but here’s where it gets fun.

The wife comes out with phone in hand and tells hubby that so-and-so wants to talk to him. He takes the phone in the house and wife and I are left standing in the driveway. She’s a real character – I’d picked up on that in our previous chat. She’s a lot of fun in a quirky, eccentric sort of way. The kind you can banter with for a long time as a casual acquaintance, but you just know would drive you insane if you lived with her day-in and day-out. She’s flirty and has that kinky Karen Black sort of look. Even though she’s in her (I’m a lousy judge of age) late fifties, I’m already thinking I’d “take one for the team” if it got me one step closer to the Jag.

We talk for a while and I mention to her that I didn’t think her husband was much interested in selling his Jag. She rested her hand on my arm and suggested that I should come back during the day “some time” so her I and I can work up a plan to get him to sell me the car. “It’s such a waste – he never uses it and it’s just getting so boring”. (not sure whether “it” is the Jag or something else)

Now adultery is a pretty compelling thing – in fact, I would wager that illicit engagements are amongst the most exciting that people can have, at least until reality comes along and spoils all the fun. But whereas “messing around” can be wild fun, it’s really only about two people giving reign to their emotions and has nothing whatever to do with any spouses. But what this woman was inferring was kind of a directed betrayal toward her husband and that left a crappy taste in my mouth.

I think I’d much rather have my gf jump in the sack with another guy (and even completely forget my name for a few hours in the process), than have her “conspire” with him to get me to sell him my car.

So that’s it. End of story for both the XKE and the pseudo-Karen Black. At least for now, 'till either her husband or I start to weaken.

Shame really. On both counts.

Wonder if it might end up as one of those "1967 import cars for sale, $100 cash" in the news paper?

Personally I keep my pants zippered if anyone involved is married or in a committed relationship. If it would get you a car then hire a young stud to service the filly but your dipping your wick in her would be a no-go for me, but them I have an allergic reaction to husbands with shotguns.

He knows what its worth and hope someday he spends some time enjoying the car, wife with or without him.

Unseen 5000 mile XKE... indecent invitations from hot wife...

Sounds like a set-up!

When you finally make it into the garage, you're going to find another 10 guys bound & gagged!

too funny. Actually, there's another part I neglected to add. My neighbour, an 80-something widow that I've been friendly with for years came over to borrow some worcheshire (you spell that one!) sauce right after I got home from the "jag-house".

She's a real busy-body, knows everything and everyone in the neighborhood, been here since the place was built in the early 60's.

So I asked her about the "smiths" (names changed to protect innocents, if there are any). She says that "dora" is a wild nut-job and that her poor husband had to start working at a walk-in clinic just to get away from her. Apparently he had retired in his early fifties, but was going nuts staying at home talking to his wife.

hm... everything's starting to make sense.

This is turning out to be a great story.

Forget the wife, she's nothing but trouble. Invite the husband over for a beer. Sounds like he would be glad to spend time with another car nut.
