9 out of 10 studies have shown as a driver's belly size increases, his irritation with cyclists grows.

Orourke should be fired from his job for that article.Much more offensive than anything Imus said.

If you use clip ons, red lights and stop sign conformity become a problem.

You can get clothes w/ good wicking properties w/o the logos, logos aren't for me but it's no worse than decals seen on a lot of cars and motorcycles. I did once think about purchasing a "Full Sail" jersey.

Unfortunately padded spandex shorts are absolutly necessary, undignified and dorky looking, but a necessity that must be tolerated.

I ride with clip ons (by which I assume you mean clipless pedals), and disagree entirely with that statement. Try a track stand. Try clipping out! This isn't rocket science, it's just good road-user behavior.

I didn't say it can't be done, just that it is more of an issue, it's not like sliding your foot off and putting it down your childhood bike

Oh well, just feeling cranky
I would venture to guess that most Earnhardt fans (at least the ones that I've known, myself included) have never had a latte

Wait until an untaxed (therefore no plate # to write down), uninsured rider rides out of a side turning ignoring the stop sign, scrapes his pedals down the side of your car, gives you the finger and an audible HA! HA!, and rides off.

Total cost $2,500.

There are obviously two mindsets here! Thoses that do! Those that dont! Both have valid points. Bottom line, we all use the roads! Courtesy and tolerance should be exhibited by both sides!

Fair enough, but in a country where the roads are being over utilized as it is, why are hobbyists allowed to "play" on those the roads at all?

Not saying I want them banned, but it's a fair question.

I feel that as a biker and a Pcar owner, I'm a serious hobbiest! I utilize the roads for my needs regardless of what I'm on or in! I have found myself on both sides of this argument as I have aged! I now realize that that we ALL need to be tolerant of each other! Peace brother!

Just be careful what you wish for. Many people think our cars are also hobbyist's playing. Why do "they" need porsches. Why do some of them drive fast on back roads? They are loud. Some of the older ones even smoke a little when they start up, and they leak. Ban them. Many types of hobbyists use these roads. Just because you don't belong to a particular group does not mean the other group has less rights than you. I pay taxes as well. Why should I not have the right to use my bicycle?
I would rather ride than drive.

Possibly because your playing on the roads holds everyone else up. I have never seen a sportscar hold up traffic.

That's always been the rule hasn't it? Your right to swing your fists ends at my nose? By your theory why can't I ride my go cart or dirt bikes on the street? Why is your hobby special?

Again, I'm not saying that I want them banned from public roads but I think it's a worthy discussion.

Wearing a jersey with "sponsor" logos on it, is like putting similar "sponsor" logos on your Porsche. You do it because you want to.

I have jerseys with both logos and without. I like the ones with because they are more obnoxious and make me feel faster.

I don't get to ride as often as I like outside so when I see bikers I'm mad because they are out doing something I wish I was.

I have no problem passing cyclists when I need to...what does it hold me up 15 seconds. Jeez...Minivan mom or new immigrant with the fresh license is worse.

People that hate on bikers because of the gear are small minded. Remember that your favorite race drivers piss their pants during the long races.

I have....ever seen an STI backwards into a wall on a perfectly straight interstate? (How does that even happen?)

I certainly have seen sportscars hold up traffic- usually when the large wreck blocks the entire road for hours. I have never seen a bicyclist kill another car full of teenagers, I have seen both a Porsche and a Corvette do just that. I am truely sorry that others waste your precious time on the roads and don't get out of your way.

I don't think my hobby is special. Build your cart or dirt bike to standards that make them road legal and they deserve the right to be on the road. It seems that every hobby can interfere with someone else. Ride a jetski- that interferes with fisherman and boaters. Fly RC planes- the noise interferes with homeowners. Race cars- the noise interferes with local homeowners. Have an RV- they tend to drive slow and block roads as well. Camp- injure environmentally sensitive areas. The list goes on and on.

Again, just be careful what you wish for. One of your hobbies might be next.

lenddaddy, I ride a road bike, and I have some nice loud biking jerseys myself. Plenty of nice tight spandex shorts as well.

But I know where you are coming from with the 'latte' crowd. Here in Seattle, you will have droves of these guys show up in matching jerseys, riding $5000 titanium road bikes......to sip latte. They sure don't look like they got real sweaty on the 3 miles they road to the cafe.

Lets just say what needs to a said: Biking outfits are for fellas that are bit light in the loafers.

the jerseys i have with logos are team jerseys from clubs that I raced with. The logos are from sponsors that gave us money or merchandise.

If more people commuted by bicycle the world would be a better place. Less obesity. Less heart disease. Less pollution. But instead, let's make sure we have enough cup holders in our Hummer to fit the supersize drink...

If we could just replace all the hate in the world with love there would be no war....
