I have a different take on Blackstone.
They were private to limit their exposure to outside influences. They were focused and undistracted--and did what they did extremely well. Why would they invite the headaches of public ownership? IMO, they are out of ideas and it is time to cash in.

I pay my FAIR share in taxes not 15% btw. Maybe I should hire some lawyers and accountants for my tax reduction liability on my $40k meager earnings lol.

btw, 1 Billion dollars is 999 Million dollars plus 1 Million.... so 7.7 X that will give you 7.7 Billion.
that's a lot of money, the US spends about 8 Billion a month in Iraq. so given that, to make that much in 1 day is nothing short of insane. |

How can I really reduce my taxes? Not much I can do and not much of a difference I'll get back. I'm not gonna risk going back into the market. Anyway how many here have lost money when the stock market dropped in 2001? Btw I'm not a Liberal.

You cannot argue the points you brought up in the beginning so now you fall back on the war in Iraq. Its all Bush's fault huh? I really feel sorry for you.

Talk with someone good with taxes to reduce your taxes. I am good with airplanes, not taxes! I pay someone to do mine and for a very good reason. If you are anywhere near Tulsa (or want to work with a good guy by email) I can recommend someone. Sorry but if you are not ready to take some risk then you will rarely make any gains! Thats just the way it is most of the time.

Re: Blackstone CEO
Quote:
I suspect the situation is that when the stock started trading publicly today, the value (on paper) of the shares the CEO holds is worth $7.7 billion. If he suddenly tried to sell all his shares (an action which would probably make the stock price drop dramatically) he would pay 15% on his capital gains -- that is the exact same maximum rate you (and everyone else) pays on long-term capital gains on the stock investments you make. So I don't know what this BS is that you're giving us about "the rest of us pay around 30%" -- but I guess a few bald-faced lies never stopped those who want to destroy free enterprise and replace it with the muck of socialism.... It is strange too how we don't hear the socialists "complaining" about how people like Google's founders became multi-billionaires virtually overnight. They took the same action (taking their company public) as BlackStone just did, but I guess since Google's founders are rabid socialists, it's "OK" that they only pay 15% tax on the billions of dollars worth of stock they've been selling: http://www.form4oracle.com/company?cik=0001288776&ticker=goog |

What the hell are you doing?
Facts have no place here. Only innuendo and half-truths are allowed here. And keep your head down, so as not to get hit with flying genetic material...

The assertion was he "made" 7.7 Billion. So based on the original statement, that was the capital gain.
Comp, I expect that you are correct, the $7.7B was the sale value, not the capital gain.

I know that it cost me less now that I hired a very good CPA than when I tried to go the cheap route.
