There's a guy with a turbo Beetle who does all the NJ Schattenbaum PCA DE's and he is a monster on the track. But that's the exception, not the rule. I've definitely given him some passing signals.

Yes. Do you need recommendations? I'd suggest you toward "An Inconvenient Truth," but sadly, I'm afraid a version published on a Dr. Seuss level isn't yet available for you.

There's only one thing I won't do in the Miata, and that's taking the cat we took in from a friend of my fiancee's to the vet. Why? Because the cat's name is "Buffy". Sorry... can't do that.

I think Green Eggs and Ham is a more believable story than Al Gore's movie.

Let me think for a moment. Hold on, I have to reserve my room for Laguna Seca. Wait, what was the question?

I have to do my own apt, but with my Miele it's a snap!

And a Miele is *not* a chick vacuum...

Miele sounds pretty metrosexual to me.

lendady, I regularly see street legal Spec Miatas driving to the race track (Summit Point) and they would be hard pressed to be called chick cars. Besides, they do have removable hardtops available for guys that have less comfidence in their masculinity.

Prius? WTF!

You see, Jim - one needs to actually ride in a Spec Miata to know it isn't a chick car.

As well, one needs to ride a chick to know she is a chick.

Of course, on either front, those who haven't, haven't a clue.

I didn’t read the entire thread so spare me the bashing if I rehash too much. We have only one child and he’s only 11 months old so he does not take up so much space, all his stuff does to a degree. Besides the revolving door of Porsches my wife and I both drove SUV’s getting 16 mpg. I just started a new commute to work and both my wife and I are just tired of 16 mpg. We looked at the SAAB small wagon, the Outback and a handful of others but the bottom line for our basis was purely MPG and sorry but nothing beats the Prius. We had a few grand equity in the 2001 Grand Cherokee so we just bought a black Prius. Our payments are roughly the same, the insurance is 160 bucks more a year but now we also have a warrantee too. The turn signal module on the jeep was shot, the heating element in the drives seat was shot and I didn’t want to repair them. The Toyota dealer gave us what I thought was a fair price for it and now I expect to get 3 times the MPG I was getting tell me how I am not saving money? This is the first brand new car I bought since the 1990 e30 M3 I bought at the very end of 1990 which I got an awesome deal on. I usually buy em all off lease used. I expect this car to give me no hassles for all the miles we’ll rack up and do it cheaply.

I am anything but a flaming tree hugger politically I am right down the middle and I have voted with both parties since I was able to vote depending what I thought the issues were at the time.

I don’t care what people call me and I don’t car how uncool it looks. When the youth hockey team I coach is on the road and I see one kid in a huge SUV with his parents and we drive 4 or 500 miles in a weekend just seams silly to me, especially since unless I am hitching a ride with one of them I am going by myself.

How much was sales tax and licence/registration on the Prius? How long would that $$$ offset the difference in MPG based upon your previous fuel consumption habits?

Isn't there some tax credit available or conservation credit, or has that been phased out? Perhaps this credit offsets the above?

Best,

Kurt

What's funny, is that my sister had a 928 in 1986, but of course the 928 is a "man's car", yes?

Take care,

Kurt
The 928 is a very muscular "manly" car -even the 928's nickname "Shark" is tough sounding. It is the car of Scar Face and Tom Cruise- as opposed to the diminutive..nay...the 'dainty' mazda miata.

My cousin has a supercharged 95 Miata that i've driven the hell out of a few times (10 psi, 14.3 @95mph- the first motor is now in orbit, btw). Decent little toy, but it's no 928.

It's still a chick car though.

The sales tax and registration is the same as any other car so its a moot point since you're not gaining or losing ground vs. any other car.

The tax credit is 750 federal and 500 state in PA which I forgot to mention.

>>>nothing beats the Prius.<<<

Did you look at the Jetta TDI? More room, a real trunk, nice firm German handling, non-weird styling and a time-proven turbo diesel engine that goes 300,000 miles +. I routinely average 43MPG and can achieve over 50MPG if I keep it under 65MPH.

I was listening to an interview the other day with the President of Smart USA. He was asked about MPG and he said it hasn't been certified yet but that it would get mid-40MPG. I laughed out loud. The Smart car is a 2-seat shoebox and gets the same mileage as a 5-passenger TDI and everybody's applauding it??????????

I predict there will be a lot of trend setters trading in their Prius's for a Smart car next year

dd74, if AL gores inconvenient truth is the best reading you can recommend it tells me three things; first, you do very little reading, second, you are the personification of an ostensible liberal. (you probably read, I mean watch Michael Moore as well) more than likely on CNN because you don't read. And third you probably stayed up for three days watching Al Gores failed attempt at a political concert. And by the way, cute picture of all the little miatas. You would fit that car perfectly.

I think the TDI would have been an excellent choice too.

I dunno. I have had horrible luck with my VW. 2 coworkers have 2003 & 2004 Jettas that have been horrible. My wife's friend is trying to unload their 2004 Passat diesel at a substantial loss, because they simply cannot depend on it to get to work and pick up their kids from school.

We need the Toyota & Honda diesels over here. Dad & his wife spent a month last year touring France & Spain in an Accord 2.2 liter diesel. That would be a fantastic car to have.
