Did you write something or just happen to get lucky with the keystrokes?

dd74, don't feed the troll. Ignore it and it will eventually go away.

Jake, my '04 Jetta GLI has been pretty good so far (knock on wood). The TDI sounds good from an economical perspective. My GLI eats Premium unleaded and it's gas consumption, in mpg, is in the low to mid 20's.

So why drive a Prius?

At the end of the day (300K miles) a Corolla has as much room, uses less energy to make, easier to maintain, proven technology and gets about the same MPG.

But it looks like the economy car it is and will not impress any chicks, neighbors, co-workers and others..

Actually Jim is as bright as a 60 watt bulb but only uses the energy of a 2 watt conventional bulb. Al Gore said so.

I also find it humorous when Porsche drivers make fun of the car choices others make.

That make any sense to you?

I always get confused when I read posts like this. Perhaps I shouldn't be so narcissistic...

Al Gore is a voyeur?

Edit: and don't knock Barbie dolls. A good friend of mine collected them when she was young and could sell them for enough to easily buy a Miata or a Prius!

If the wrong someone drove behind you for a brief instant and thought to themselves, "I smell Long John Silver's and only see that old Mercedes."

Drove a gen 1 prius, did not like the way the brakes worked, not a bad car, but not an engaging drive to me whatsoever. Ugly as a mud fence too, but driving it you don't have to look at it. I like small, sporty cars. I toyed with the idea of an electric 914, but don't have time to do one.

I've had the opposite experience with VW. I've got 3 Jetta TDI's (03 - 175K, 04 - 110K, 05 - 90K miles) and will soon be adding a 4th. No reliability/quality-control issues with any of them. We pretty much abuse the crap out of these things. I've found they're VERY difficult to find and command a premium on the used market.

Also, owning a car that is efficient doesn't necessarily mean one is a global warming lemming. I'm the biggest 'denier' you'd ever want to meet I also save $200 per vehicle per week in fuel costs versus the old vehicles we were driving. That's real money in my pocket to spend on gas-guzzling weekend fun cars.

I've had 4 VW diesle trucks, the last one had almost 500K on it when I traded it off and have had multple other VWs, both air & water cooled and have had very good luck with both since buying my 1st 66 bus way back when
