Driving me Crazy!!!
I have a condo in the city I use during the week on the top floor of a highrise.
The fitness center is on the floor above and every night some people insist on getting on the tread mill and others are using weights that the drop on the floor and it 's loud. at 1:00am. Eventhough the floors are concrete, we can still hear a thump, thump, thump for about an hour and an half. Management in the building are deadheads and have yet to post a courtesy sign in the fitness center. I don't want to be a dick to other tenants by advising them of their intrusion, but it's getting ridiculous. I guess my only option is to move. Any suggestions???

That's a tough one. All communication should be in writing and keep a detailed log of all correspondence- you might need it.
Would thick rubber floor mats help? Good luck, Paul.

Concrete construction has wierd noise transfer effects.
A friend could blast loud music and it didn't transfer to the next floor, yet some light tapping on the walls would bring complaining neighbors from many floors away. Not sure, but I think the legal term is "right of quiet enjoyment" of the property. Even though you're an owner, tenants-rights sites will have more info. Mabye attend the next association meeting and mention it. The section-8'er building (almost empty/COdeficient) next door to mine just got sold and the new slumlord started getting an attitude when I suggested meeting with our association to discuss "mutual quality of life" issues regarding the common areas of the property. I casually mentioned there were several forms of communication, one in the form of subpoena.

Erik BTW, if you don't want section 8 next to you then your association should've bought the building and rented to white people of your choosing after renovating it.

So a pirate walks into a bar with a steering wheel sticking out of his pants.
The bartender asks: "Why do you have a steering wheel sticking out of your pants?" The pirate responds: "Yargh! It be drivin' me nuts!"

Have you considered trying to get elected to the association yourself?
In my experiences talking to others who have been in similar predicaments, the ONLY way to get resolution is to do it yourself, and the only way to do that (legally) is to get on the board. Until then, you might as well be renting.

Did the thing cash flow? would the units sell as condos if they were remodeled?
Get in touch with the s.8 people so you have a number to call if you have complaints.

Why not get your own professionally made sign(s) and post it yourself when no one is around? Everyone will think management posted it.

Wow, thats pretty sad. Someone had to suggest this to you. Guess it is really not that big of a deal, if it was and you had put just a little bit of thought into this "crisis" you might have thought of this yourself. I think you should take you own suggestion and move. WTF happened to people solving minute problems for themselves?

Jeeze. Tough room tonight. I'm afraid to open a thread that was meant to be provocative.

Hey, What do you expect from a:
Actually, it did take some thought as some folks are mature enough to be considerate of the situation. The building has mainly health care professionals (Doc's and nurses) that may pull emergency room duty or 2nd or 3rd shifts. The hours they choose to exercise conflicts with mine. SO in order to take this into consideration and not be selfish, I had options. The building will move me to another unit or come up with another solution. The sign I posted was not to ask them not to exercise but to get together for a mutual solution. Something that an would not understand...
